El joven ultimado en un ataque terrorista en el bloque de asentamientos Gush Etzíon, en Cisjordania (Judea y Samaria) fue identificado como Dvir Sorek, de 19 años, domiciliado en la comunidad de Ofra.
Dvir, estudiaba en el seminario rabínico (yeshiva) Ohr Torah Mahanayim, ubicado junto al kibutz religioso Migdal Oz, en Gush Etzíon. Se había enrolado al ejército mientras continuaba sus estudios en un programa conocido en hebreo como “hesder”.
Su padre es el periodista Yoav Sorek, editor de la publicación “Hashiloach”, y su abuelo el rabino Biniamín Herling, que fue asesinado en un ataque terrorista, en octubre del 2000, cuando miembros de Fatah y fuerzas de seguridad palestinas abrieron fuego contra un grupo de excursionistas israelíes, que incluía hombres, mujeres y niños, en el Monte Ebal, cerca de Nablus.
Herling, un sobreviviente del Holocausto, tenía 64 años, en el momento de su asesinato. Se había establecido en el asentamiento de Kedumim, también en Cisjordania, en 1981, y dirigía el instituto rabínico (Kollel) Birkat Yosef en Elon Moré.
Una investigación preliminar sugiere que Dvir Sorek no fue asesinado donde su cuerpo fue hallado, sino que habría sido secuestrado en otro lugar, apuñalado y luego arrojado sobre la carretera en las cercanías de Migdal Oz.
En junio de 2014, Naftalí Frenkel, 16 años, Gilad Shaer, 16 años, y Eyal Yifrah de 19 años, fueron secuestrados y asesinados en la misma zona. El Ejército está investigando si se trata de un ataque de características similares.
“Fue a Jerusalén a comprar regalos para los rabinos (de la yeshiva) y en el camino de regreso ocurrió el atentado. Lo encontraron aferrado a los libros que compró”, apuntó el director de su seminario, el rabino Shlomo Wilk, a la Radio del Ejército (Galei Tzáhal).
Tras haber perdido el contacto, su familia reportó la desaparición del joven a la policía a las 7:30 p.m., y las fuerzas lanzaron un intenso rastrillaje para localizar al soldado. Su cuerpo fue hallado en la zona de la Brigada Regional Etzíon cerca de las 3:00 a.m.
El estudiante estaba aún en la etapa del programa “hesder” que precede al servicio militar activo; no obstante, ya era definido como soldado de las FDI, por las instituciones estatales.
