Argentina es uno de los países que aprobó una resolución que pedía un embargo de armas contra Israel en el Consejo de Derechos Humanos de las Naciones Unidas. Contó con el apoyo de muchos de los países europeos, pero recibió la desaprobación de Bahrein, que no estuvo presente en la votación del martes.
La medida, denominada resolución de rendición de cuentas, fue aprobada por 32-6 y ocho abstenciones. Incluyó algunos de los términos más duros contra Israel de las cuatro resoluciones que se espera que apruebe el CDH de 47 miembros. La 46ª sesión finaliza esta semana.
La resolución que presentó Pakistán, invitaba a condenar la situación de los derechos humanos en el «territorio palestino ocupado», incluida Jerusalén oriental. Obligación de garantizar la rendición de cuentas y la justicia.

Cuando, de acuerdo con los procedimientos nacionales aplicables y las obligaciones y estándares internacionales, evalúen que existe un riesgo claro de que tales armas puedan ser utilizadas para cometer o facilitar graves violaciones o abusos del derecho internacional de los derechos humanos o violaciones graves del derecho internacional humanitario «
El enviado británico Julian Braithwaite dijo que se abstuvieron, porque no incluyeron también las condenas a Hamás.
El embajador de Israel ante la ONU en Ginebra, Meirav Shachar, dijo que la reubicación de la resolución no abordó el tema de los prejuicios contra Israel.
El texto no menciona a Hamás. «Solo menciona el terrorismo y la incitación al condenar a Israel, y no atribuye ninguna responsabilidad a los actores palestinos», dijo.
Tampoco menciona la cooperación positiva entre Israel y la Autoridad Palestina para combatir la pandemia de COVID-19, dijo.
