Casi 2 meses después del ataque sin precedentes de Hamás contra el sur de Israel, que dejó a más de 1400 personas asesinadas, los datos exactos sobre las muertes y secuestros siguen siendo inciertos.
Se han realizado esfuerzos para recopilar los datos disponibles, en particular el número de bebés, niños y ancianos asesinados el 7 de octubre.
Las autoridades han identificado un total de 274 soldados y 859 no soldados muertos durante el ataque del 7 de octubre.
Esta última cifra incluye 57 agentes de la Policía de Israel y 38 agentes de seguridad locales. No está claro cuáles de estos individuos estaban de servicio cuando fueron asesinados. Dejar fuera a esas víctimas deja una cifra de 764 civiles.
Los datos parciales revelan que entre ellos se incluyen 2 bebés, otros 12 niños menores de 10 años y 36 civiles de 10 a 19 años, y 25 personas mayores de 80 años, lo que supone 75 de los 764 civiles.
Israel también ha nombrado a otros 15 civiles y miembros de las fuerzas de seguridad (no incluidos en los 764 anteriores) que fueron asesinados y cuyos restos están en manos de terroristas en la Franja de Gaza.
Actualmente hay otros 122 israelíes y extranjeros retenidos como rehenes en Gaza como resultado del ataque del 7 de octubre (un número desconocido de los cuales están muertos) después de que Hamás liberara a un total de 109 rehenes.
Otro rehén (un soldado) fue rescatado con vida por las fuerzas de las FDI, y las tropas israelíes recuperaron 3 cuerpos de rehenes asesinados (dos civiles y un soldado) y los devolvieron a Israel (que también se sumarán a la suma total de israelíes asesinados el 7 de octubre).
Otros 7 israelíes figuran actualmente como desaparecidos y sus familias no han recibido información de las autoridades sobre si fueron asesinados o secuestrados. También se desconoce el paradero de un número indeterminado de extranjeros.
Un número desconocido de cadáveres (a mediados de noviembre eran alrededor de 100) todavía están esperando su identificación en el centro patológico Shura, cerca de Tel Aviv, y el proceso presenta dificultades debido al estado de los restos. Se cree que algunos de los restos pertenecen a terroristas de Hamás.
En resumen, Israel ha identificado oficialmente a 1.151 personas asesinadas en el ataque de Hamás, y un número desconocido de otras aún esperan confirmación, y algunos de los rehenes restantes de Gaza posiblemente también estén muertos.
Las autoridades aún no han proporcionado un desglose oficial sobre las víctimas. Pero el sitio de noticias Walla! ha publicado datos por edad y género de 756 de los civiles asesinados de los que hay información disponible.
Uno de ellos es un bebé menor de un año: Mila Cohen, de 10 meses, asesinada junto con su padre y su abuela.
Según datos de Haaretz, una mujer beduina al final de su embarazo recibió un disparo en el abdomen mientras se dirigía al hospital para dar a luz, donde los médicos dieron a luz al bebé, pero no pudieron salvarlo.

Walla informó que 100 víctimas tenían entre 65 y 80 años, incluidas 69 mujeres y 31 hombres.
Y 25 víctimas tenían más de 80 años: 18 hombres y siete mujeres.
