Magda Behrend, adoptada como Friedlander, divorciada como Quandt y conocida como Goebbels, llamada la Compañera del Diablo por estar casada con con el ministro de propaganda del Reich, Joseph Goebbels, nació en 1901 y su historia resultó una de las más impenetrables entre las mujeres de la elite nazi.
Comenzamos el relato contando que su madre ,después de divorciarse del padre de Magda, se casó con un acomodado fabricante de pieles, judío, de apellido Friedlander, apellido que la niña (ya casi adolscente) adoptó con gusto, aún en vida de su propio padre.
Friedlander fue quien la indujo a estudiar filosofía y budismo, llegando ella misma a sentir una fuerte aversión por la violencia.
Fue novia de Jaim Arlosoroff (judío ruso), nieto de rabino, ambos vivieron un intenso romance y compartieron el ideal sionista, Jaim emigró (1932) a la entonces Palestina donde estructuró el partido Mapai y fue colaborador del que años más tarde se convirtiera en el primer presidente del Estado de Israel, Jaim Weitzman.
Arlosoroff fue asesinado en Tel Aviv en 1933 por un opositor político.
Al finalizar este romance, Magda se casa con Quandt con el que tiene un hijo y se divorcia al poco tiempo. Es aquí donde por aburrimiento y curiosidad comienza a escuchar los discursos de Goebbels, lee «Mi Lucha» y se convierte en dirigente de las mujeres nazis de su distrito.
El matrimonio tuvo 6 hijos, todos los nombres de los chicos comenzaban con la letra H en honor a Hitler, no faltó en su discurso la siguiente frase: «Amo a mi esposo pero mi amor por Hitler es más fuerte y por él estaría dispuesta a morir».
Fue distinguida con la Cruz de Honor de la Madre Alemana, por el gran número de hijos que brindó al Führer.
En 1945 se encontraba junto a su marido y sus 6 hijos en el bunker junto a Hitler, la guerra estaba perdida, el 1 de mayo de ese mismo año mata a sus hijos, dándoles primero un somnífero y aplicándoles una inyección letal, posteriormente Joseph y Magda se suicidan.
¿Cómo es posible, interpretar esta historia? ¿La violencia es hija del miedo o del coraje? No existen dudas, aunque nos resulte difícil comprenderlo que Magda fue portadora del estandarte nacionalsocialista, la abanderada de Hitler.
