Los países que integran el Mercosur volvieron a inclinarse este martes a favor de la parte palestina en el conflicto que concentra la atención del mundo en medio oriente. Reunidos en Venezuela, los presidentes del bloque pidieron a la comunidad internacional presione para conseguir un «alto al fuego duradero».
En principio trascendió que se había aprobado un documento con fuertes cuestionamientos a Israel, promovido por el mandatario Venezolano, Nicolás Maduro. La nota repudiaba la «política criminal de carácter genocida y las acciones guerreristas del gobierno de Israel contra el pueblo palestino» y llamaba a suspender los tratados de libre comercio con ese país.
Sin embargo, la iniciativa del líder chavista, quien no oculta su simpatía por el grupo terrorista Hamas, que ostenta el poder en Gaza, fue finalmente modificada. Primó al término de las negociaciones unadeclaración más moderada, defendida por el gobierno argentino.
En el texto que prevaleció, los estados miembros del Mercosur «condenaron de manera enérgica el uso desproporcionado de la fuerza por parte del ejército israelí en la Franja de Gaza, que afecta mayormente a civiles, incluyendo niños y mujeres».
También expresaron «profunda preocupación por el deterioro de la situación humanitaria resultante del conflicto» e «instaron a respetar estrictamente el Derecho Internacional, incluyendo el Derecho Internacional de los Derechos Humanos y el Derecho Internacional Humanitario».
El bloque manifestó a favor de una «investigación de todas las violaciones del Derecho Internacional Humanitario» e instó a «un inmediato levantamiento del bloqueo que afecta a la población de Gaza, que permita el libre tránsito de personas, el ingreso de alimentos, medicamentos y ayuda humanitaria, tanto por vía terrestre como por vía marítima.
Por último, antes de destacar las gestiones de la ONU y Egipto para ayudar a una salida pacífica al conflicto, llamaron a la comunidad internacional a «ejercer la debida presión en favor de un cese al fuego duradero y a la pronta restauración del diálogo como única salida al conflicto, a la vez que reiteraron su apoyo a la solución de dos Estados viviendo en paz y seguridad dentro de fronteras internacionalmente reconocidas».
