Yahalom es una unidad de elite del Cuerpo de Ingenieros de Combate del Ejército de Defensa de Israel.
«Aquellos que piensan que no existen los túneles en el norte; no viven en Medio Oriente. Hezbollah ha estado y sigue estando vinculado a todo eso», apuntó.
Los comentarios de Shelach vienen a colación de las declaraciones del jefe del Comando Norte, Yair Golan, quien durante un encuentro con intendentes de las localidades del norte del país, expresó que el ejército «no tiene conocimiento de que hayan amenazas de túneles terroristas que cruzan la frontera desde el Líbano y penetran en Israel».
Hezbollah ha aprendido a construir su red de túneles de Corea del Norte, que posee un sistema avanzado de pasajes subterráneos debajo de la Zona Desmilitarizada, en la frontera con Corea del Sur. Fue Hezbollah quien transmitió su experiencia en esta materia a Hamas.
Shelach manifestó que la amenaza de los túneles recién comienza y destacó que está seguro que pronto será desarrollada una tecnología especial para detectar los túneles.
