Alrededor de 45.000 kurdos de Siria se han refugiado en Turquía desde el jueves para huir de los combates entre los yihadistas del grupo Estado Islámico (ISIS por sus siglas en inglés) y los combatientes kurdos en el noreste de Siria, anunció este sábado el vice primer ministro turco.
«Hasta este momento, 45.000 kurdos de Siria han cruzado la frontera y entrado en Turquía» por ocho lugares distintos, declaró Numan Kurtulmus a la prensa, un día después de que las autoridades turcas abrieran la frontera.
Turquía se ha visto obligada el viernes a abrir su frontera para acoger urgentemente a miles de kurdos de Siria que abandonaron sus casas ante el avance del ISIS en los alrededores de la ciudad de Ain al Arab (llamada Koban en kurdo).
Después de haber negado un tiempo la entrada a estos refugiados, las autoridades turcas dejaron entrar el viernes a miles de personas en la localidad de Dikmetas, sobre todo mujeres, niños y ancianos.
En virtud de su política de «puertas abiertas», Turquía acoge actualmente a casi millón y medio de refugiados sirios que huyeron de los combates que oponen desde 2011 los rebeldes a las tropas del presidente Bashar al Assad.
Turquía, miembro de la OTAN, se ha opuesto a participar en una operación militar contra el Estados Islámico como parte de la coalición internacional movilizada por Estados Unidos.
Matanza indiscriminada
Los combates entre fuerzas peshmergas -kurdas- y las milicias de ISIS en el norte de Siria e Irak continúan sin tregua. En los alrededores de Mosul, ciudad tomada por los yihadistas- los kurdos están llevando adelante una contraofensiva exitosa, al igual que en otras regiones iraquíes.
Lo mismo sucedió en el noreste de Siria, donde se reportaron la toma de 14 poblaciones que estaban en manos de los hombres de negro. Sin embargo, estos avances kurdos parecen haber sido el motivo de las milicias extremistas para arrasar con todo lo que encontraron a su paso en Ain al Arab.
En los sitios yihadistas se publicaron esta semana las imágenes de los restos de las fuerzas kurdas que perdieron la vida ante el avance de ISIS, lo cual despertó el terror de las familias de la región que provocaron entonces la estampida hacia la frontera con Turquía, donde esperan poner a salvo sus vidas.
