Jabbari fue detenida en 2007 por la muerte de Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, ex empleado del Ministerio de Inteligencia de Irán, quien, según el relato presentado por la mujer, había abusado sexualmente de ella. El tribunal, que responde al régimen de Teherán, no le creyó, la declaró culpable y la sentenció a muerte en 2009. El veredicto fue confirmado por la Suprema Corte iraní.
La violación denunciada por la joven nunca fue investigada, ni tampoco el crimen por el que la condenaron.
A pesar de los múltiples pedidos, y el petitorio firmado por 190 mil personas entregado al gobierno de Hasan Rohani, Jabbari morirá mañana en la horca.
