El candelabro de Janucá consta de 8 porta velas alineadas horizontalmente y una novena (el shamash) que debe estar más alto.

Lo mismo, si quiere encender con aceite, puede alinear los vasos o copas y el shamash sobre algo más elevado.
Si la altura de las velas es irregular, o están a la misma altura pero no alineadas, esta Januquiá no es apta.
Las velas para todos los días deben ser lo suficientemente grandes para que duren por lo menos 1/2 hora, pero para el viernes a la noche, ya que deben estar encendidas desde antes de que se oculte el sol, deben durar por lo menos 80 minutos. Por eso debemos contar con velas más grandes.
¿Donde se enciende la Januquiá?
El mejor lugar en donde podemos colocar la Januquiá es en el paso de una puerta, del lado opuesto a la mezuzá. Se debe apoyar sobre una plataforma que mida por lo menos 24 cm de altura y no mayor de 9.4 mts.
También se puede colocar cerca de una ventana que da a la calle, teniendo en cuenta que la altura de las llamas esté dentro de los 9.4 mts. Midiendo desde la calle. Si se colocan dos januquiot, debemos cuidarnos de que no estén tan juntas como para que se mezclen las llamas. El motivo por el cual colocamos la Januquiá en el paso de la puerta, es para que estemos rodeados de Mitzvot, por un lado la Januquiá y por el otro la mezuzá.
El horario para encender la Januquiá es desde que se oculta el sol hasta que la gente de la casa todavía está despierta. La Januquiá debe permanecer encendida 1/2 hora después de la salida de las estrellas. Por eso si se encendió a la puesta del sol debemos esperar 50 minutos. Lo correcto es encender en este horario.
