Actualmente, las mujeres podrán bañarse en los baños rituales, conocidos como mikves, sin un asistente varón, anunció el Rabinato, en respuesta a una petición presentada por un grupo de mujeres a la Corte Suprema de Justicia.

El Rabinato retrae su posición original contra el movimiento para permitir que las mujeres hagan su baño ritual mensual sin un ayudante. Esto representó una victoria para las mujeres después de una batalla de tres años.

La petición fue presentada por el grupo Itim en nombre de 13 mujeres y el movimiento Permítanos bañarnos en paz, formado por otros dos grupos: Advot y Yerushalmim.

Hace algunos años, a raíz de las demandas de las mujeres, el Ministerio de Servicios Religiosos emitió regulaciones para proteger la privacidad de las mujeres en los baños rituales. Las regulaciones prohibieron a los asistentes realizar a las bañistas preguntas intrusivas.

Sin embargo, las peticionarias señalaron los reglamentos no se estaban aplicando y exigieron que la Corte ordene al consejos religiosos hacerlas cumplir. Asimismo, reiteraron su demanda a bañarse sin asistentes presentes.

«En este caso, todo el mundo gana», declaró el director de itim, el rabino Shaul Farber. Elogió al Rabinato por su flexibilidad, que dijo que traería muchas mujeres más cerca de la tradición judía.

La diputada Rachel Azaria (Kulanu), jefa del caucus de judaísmo israelí de la Knéset, elogió el fallo. «La decisión de si una debe o no se bañarse con un acompañante es de carácter personal y no un requisito halájico», expresó.
