La tasa de fertilidad de las mujeres judías y árabes fue idéntica por primea vez en la historia de Israel durante el 2015, según datos de la Oficina Central de Estadística de Israel publicados este martes para conmemorar el Día Internacional de la Infancia.
El reporte indica que las mujeres judías y árabes han dado a luz un promedio de 3.13 hijos. En 2000, la tasa de fertilidad entre la población árabe era de 4.3 hijos por mujer, mientras que entre los judíos era de 2.6. Desde entonces, esta brecha se ha reducido a un ritmo constante. A finales de 2015, había 2.8 millones de niños en Israel entre los 0 y los 17 años, un 33% de la población, de los cuales aproximadamente dos millones (71.3%) eran judíos, 718,000 eran árabes (25.7%) y 84,000 (3.0%) estaban registrados como “otros”.
La tasa de fertilidad de Israel es la más alta de los países desarrollados de la OCDE, según el sitio de la organización. En 2013, la población joven era la segunda mayor en la OCDE, sólo detrás de México.
En el país hay un promedio de 2.4 niños por hogar. La ciudad de Beit Shemesh registra el promedio más alto, con 3.8 niños por hogar, seguida de Bnei Brak con 3.4, mientras que Jerusalem, la capital, había tres niños por hogar. Las tres ciudades tienen poblaciones grandes ultraortodoxas.
La ciudad costera de Bat Yam reportó la menor población juvenil, con apenas 1.8 niños por hogar.
