El 18 de abril, fecha del 70° aniversario de la creación del Estado de Israel, el CIDICSEF organizó la Jornada BORGES E ISRAEL con la presencia de María Kodama y dos destacados investigadores: María Gabriela Mizraje y Martín Hadis, coordinados por la Lic. María Cherro de Azar. La actividad tuvo el auspicio de los Amigos Argentinos de la Universidad de Tel Aviv. El CIDICSEF publicó el libro: «BORGES, EL JUDAÍSMO E ISRAEL», donde se encuentra gran parte de lo obra del genial escritor referida a estos temas.
La actividad tuvo lugar en una sala colmada. La moderadora invitó en primer lugar a María Kodama a recitar un poema de Borges dirigido a su amigo judío Simón Jichlinki (que conoció cuando era estudiante en Ginebra y continuó toda la vida). Luego la Lic. María Cherro de Azar recordó la intensa labor de David Elnecavé, fundador de la Revista La Luz, un fervoroso sionista, amigo de Zeev Jabotinsky y Naum Sokolov, y que seguramente tuvo contactos con David Ben Gurión e Isaac Ben Zví mientras estudiaban, por aquellos años, en Estambul.
MARÍA GABRIELA MIZRAJE. EL “VIVA LA PATRIA” DE BORGES:
Seguidamente tuvo lugar una detallada y profunda exposición de la escritora e investigadora María Gabriela Mizraje.Comentó que el ilustre escritor, en el Colegio Calvino de Ginebra, se hizo amigo de dos judíos: Simón Jichlinki y Maurice Abramowicz. Dicha amistad perduró toda su vida. Recordó que en una carta, siendo muy joven, Borges resalta que se sentiría “orgulloso por el arroyo de sangre judía que corre por sus venas “. Luego la amistad con Cancinos Assens lo acercó aún más al judaísmo. Además agregó que durante los años ´30 Borges se expresó con fuerza contra el antisemitismo nazi y criollo. En varias oportunidades manifestó el genial escritor su admiración por Baruj Spinoza, sentimiento que compartió con David Ben Gurión.
La Guerra de los Seis Días lo conmovió profundamente. Justamente en el tercer día la guerra Borges se presentó –según lo comenta Bernardo Ezequiel Koremblit- en la biblioteca de la Sociedad Hebraica Argentina “diciendo por todo saludo al entrar en el cuarto ‘¡Viva la Patria!…Vengo a pedir la hospitalidad de la revista Davar para un poema llamado ‘A Israel’”. A partir de ese momento conectaron el grabador y Borges “con la voz emocionada, resistiéndose a sentarse, rechazando el café, comenzó a decir los estremecedores endecasílabos del célebre soneto: ”A ISRAEL». Para cerrar, señaló Mizraje que Borges jamás se arrepintió de sus poemas a favor de Israel.Un cerrado aplauso cerró su intervención.
Luego se le dio la palabra al escritor y estudioso de la genealogía, Lic. Martín Hadis. Éste recordó los antepasados ingleses de la abuela de Borges, Fanny Haslam, gran conocedora de la Biblia hebrea. Señaló que los ancestros ingleses, pertenecían a una prolífica familia de escritores y excéntricos intelectuales.
Borges afirma en una ocasión: «Creo que mi pasión por Israel procede de mi abuela inglesa. Ella era protestante, lo cual quiere decir que era lectora de la Biblia […] Es decir que yo me he criado un poco en un ambiente bíblico, que es decir en un ambiente judío». En otra entrevista Borges señaló «siempre me he sentido ligado a Israel, desde la infancia».Señaló Hadis que justamente, su abuela inglesa, llegó a la Argentina traída por su cuñado, un judío de Livorno llamado Jorge Suarez. En otra parte de su exposición Hadis resaltó la profunda admiración mutua que existió entre Borges y el creador político del Estado de Israel
Antes de cerrar la actividad, la profesora Esther Cohen leyó el poema “Israel, 1969”. Esta histórica actividad se cerró con un brindis en honor al 70 aniversario de la creación del Estado de Israel.
