La cadena de televisión “Fox Sports” anunció que el ex futbolista Marco van Basten no participará la próxima semana en el programa “De Eretribune”, donde trabaja habitualmente como analista, por una broma hecha el pasado sábado que incluía una proclama nazi.
El canal donará al Instituto de Estudios de Guerras, Holocausto y Genocidio, con sede en Ámsterdam, la cantidad económica que normalmente le correspondería al ex director técnico por su intervención semanal en el programa.
“Lo que sucedió fue estúpido e inapropiado y “Fox Sports” se distancia de lo que Marco van Basten dijo el sábado”, aseguró en un comunicado la cadena, que rechazó despedir al ex futbolista de forma definitiva.
““Fox Sports” sigue apoyando la colaboración con Marco van Basten y le da la bienvenida al programa “De Eretribune” el próximo sábado 7 de diciembre”, añadió el canal.
El anuncio se produce dos días después de que un micrófono abierto cazara al ex futbolista diciendo la proclama nazi “Sieg Heil” (‘Salve, viva, eterna victoria’), utilizada por el Tercer Reich.
El suceso se produjo al finalizar la entrevista que un periodista holandés le estaba haciendo en alemán al germano Frank Wormuth, entrenador del Heracles Almelo, desde el estadio Johan Cruyff Arena.
Cuando ambos se despidieron, se escuchó en antena a Van Basten decir “Sieg Heil” desde el estudio, momento que fue ampliamente compartido en las redes sociales de Países Bajos.
La propia cadena le pidió una explicación, a lo que el ex futbolista reaccionó ofreciendo sus disculpas y diciendo que se trató de una “broma equivocada”.
