Interesante artículo del New York Times en el cual se destacan los avances israelíes en relación al COVID19. Resulta develador observar cómo define el Times a David Halbfinger, el autor de la nota, en su web: “Jefe de la oficina de Jerusalén de The New York Times. Cubre Israel, los territorios palestinos ocupados y el Medio Oriente”.
El título de la nota no es menos subjetivo: “El laboratorio de ideas del ejército israelí apunta a un nuevo objetivo: salvar vidas”.
El prejuicio del famoso pasquín antiisraelí ya define desde la presentación de su oficina en Jerusalén que sus periodistas cubren las noticias de algo que ellos y buena parte de los nuevos judeófobos del mundo definen como territorios ocupados. Toda una declaración de principios.
Resulta ocioso señalar que si se refieren a Judea y Samaria (Cisjordana), se trata en el mejor de los casos de territorios en disputa, ya que el estatus definitivo de los mismos ha quedado inconcluso desde los frustrados tratados de Oslo.
El título de la nota también define la posición del Times y Halbfinger. Según ellos para el ejército israelí salvar vidas sería un nuevo objetivo, que supuestamente no existía hasta ahora.
De todos modos lo realmente bueno viene en el primer párrafo del artículo:
“El brazo de investigación y desarrollo del Ministerio de Defensa de Israel es mejor conocido por ser pionero en formas innovadoras de matar personas y hacer explotar cosas, con tanques furtivos drones de francotiradores entre sus proyectos recientes más letales”.
Así comienzan el artículo el diario y este sujeto: argumentando que la inteligencia del ejército israelí no está a disposición de salvar las vidas de los israelíes permanentemente amenazados por sus belicosos vecinos de Hamás, Hezbollah, Bashar Al Asad, y un poco más lejos la teocracia iraní, sino en matar, así nomás, porque les gusta hacerlo.
Es probable que el periodista Halbfinger considere que la vida de los israelíes no tiene valor, por eso argumenta que lo que hacen recurrentemente las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel sea innovador matando cuando en realidad es innovador en la defensa de sus conciudadanos lo que lógicamente causa bajas en sus enemigos, algo bastante habitual en la guerra o cuando un país es atacado.
Recién avanzada la columna se describen los avances israelíes, que en realidad ocupan por lo menos dos tercios del total de la publicación y centralizan lo verdaderamente importante: los avances tecnológicos israelíes contra el Coronavirus, pero para el New York Times lo primero es acusar al ejército de Israel de usar su inteligencia para matar, estigmatizarlo y predisponiendo a sus lectores a un prejuicio: ‘estos judíos que solo saben matar ahora se pusieron las pilas y van a hacer algo por la vida’ es el mensaje que buscan transmitir.
Sin embargo, la fuerza de los múltiples desarrollos israelíes contra la pandemia del COVID19 es tan poderosa que quien lee la nota no puede menos que maravillarse y preguntarse cómo ese pequeño país pudo haber hecho tanto.
Cuenta la Torah (Biblia, Viejo testamento), que Balak, rey de Moab, veía una amenaza en los judíos que avanzaban por el desierto camino a la Tierra de Israel. Balak se da cuenta que las estrategias de guerra habituales no le dan resultado y recurre a un profeta no judío para que los maldiga y los destruya.
Bilam, el hechicero en cuestión, recibe múltiples avisos para que no cumpla con el encargo. Sin embargo, hace caso omiso y lo intenta.
Cada vez que Bilam intenta maldecír a Israel de su boca solo salen alabanzas: “Oye oh Israel, que bellas son tus tiendas, cuan agradables tus moradas”, repite mientras Balak le recrimina que le pidió que los maldiga, no que los bendiga.
Bilam jura que lo intentó, pero que no pudo, que cada vez que quiso hacerlo no pudo.
Más de 3000 años después, el Times como un Balak de nuestros días manda a su Bilam, Halfbinger, para que maldiga a Israel, pero como en la Torah, de su boca salen bendiciones. En aquel caso alabanzas a los campamentos de los judíos en el desierto, ahora admiración por la enorme capacidad de Israel y sus fuerzas de defensa para seguir creando.
Lo que deberían recordar los del New York Times es que Moab hace milenios ya no existe.
