El Gobierno Nacional designó al embajador argentino en Israel, Sergio Urribarri, como embajador ante la República de Chipre.
Urribarri visitará ese país entre el 28 y el 30 de este mes. Allí presentará las cartas credenciales suscriptas por Alberto Fernández ante el jefe de Estado de Chipre, Nikos Anastasiadis.
“Designase Embajador Extraordinario y Plenipotenciario de la República ante la República de Chipre al señor Embajador Extraordinario y Plenipotenciario Sergio Daniel Urribarri, sin perjuicio de sus actuales funciones como Embajador Extraordinario y Plenipotenciario de la República ante el Estado de Israel”, indica el artículo 1 del decreto que firmó el presidente de la Nación, el jefe de Gabinete Santiago Cafiero y el canciller Felipe Solá.
Durante su primer viaje a Chipre desarrollará una intensa agenda diplomática e institucional. Entre otras actividades, presentará cartas credenciales al presidente y visitará a los cascos azules argentinos que participan de la misión de paz de la ONU.
El contingente argentino, por su parte, presta funciones en Chipre en el marco de la Fuerza de las Naciones Unidas para el Mantenimiento de la Paz. Está bajo el mando del teniente coronel de Caballería Matías Jorge Mones Ruiz.
Las relaciones diplomáticas entre la Argentina y Chipre se establecieron en 1968. Urribarri, quien desde el 7 de mayo se desempeña como embajador argentino en Israel, ejercerá su misión desde Tel Aviv.
