A su vez, el fiscal general Avichai Mandelblit, pidió al asesor de seguridad nacional Meir Ben-Shabbat que brindara más detalles sobre la iniciativa. La solicitud se dio ante la preocupación de que pudiera haber una petición en su contra al Tribunal Superior de Justicia. Ben-Shabat decidió esperar hasta recibir la opinión legal de Mandelblit sobre el asunto.

Además, el ministro de Defensa, Benny Gantz, y el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Gabi Ashkenazi, exigieron que se someta a votación en el Gabinete de Seguridad.

Por su parte, Gantz se opuso al plan de ayuda para vacunas con el argumento de que Netanyahu tomó la decisión solo, sin una votación o consulta del gabinete, y elogió el hecho de que se había suspendido.

«El movimiento de Netanyahu se hizo de manera antidemocrática, mientras eludía las reglas», se lamentó Gantz. “Si hay una razón para transferir vacunas a diferentes países a expensas de los ciudadanos israelíes, solo se decidirá en los foros apropiados. Tomar decisiones en la oscuridad genera sospechas de daño a las relaciones exteriores y la seguridad nacional de Israel”.

A principios de esta semana, la Oficina del Primer Ministro anunció que varios países, así como la Autoridad Palestina, recibirían una cantidad simbólica de dosis de la vacuna COVID-19 de Israel.

Cerca de 20 países estaban en la lista para recibir entre 1.000 y 5.000 dosis cada uno. Entre ellos se encuentran Mauritania, con la que Israel no tiene relaciones diplomáticas. También, Chad, Etiopía, Guatemala, Guinea, Honduras, Kenia, Maldivas, San Marino y Uganda. Así como tres países de la UE; Chipre, República Checa y Hungría.

«Estamos enviando vacunas a países con los que tenemos relaciones amistosas», dijo un alto funcionario. Previamente, se le preguntó si la ayuda de vacunas era una señal de que Israel y Mauritania están en el camino hacia la normalización.

En tanto, Guatemala tiene una embajada en Jerusalén. Se espera que República Checa abra una oficina diplomática en la capital en los próximos días y Guinea Ecuatorial ha prometido abrir una embajada allí.

«La decisión de Netanyahu se tomó de una manera no democrática, sin pasar por importantes procedimientos», tuiteó Gantz. «Si es necesario proporcionar vacunas a otros países a expensas de los ciudadanos israelíes, será decidido por las entidades apropiadas. Tomar decisiones en la oscuridad genera preocupaciones sobre el daño a las relaciones exteriores y la seguridad nacional de Israel», cerró.
