En la noche del sábado falleció Edgar Wildfeuer (98), sobreviviente del Holocausto que llegó a la provincia para rehacer su vida.

Nació en Dziedzice, Polonia, en 1924. Era hijo único de un ingeniero ferroviario. La guerra los sorprendió cuando tenía tres años y se habían mudado a Toruń. En 1941 el ejército alemán invadió a la entonces Unión Soviética y con su familia lograron escapar hacia Podhuba.

Durante cuatro años vivió bajo dominio nazi, sufriendo hambre, frío y maltrato. Recuperó la libertad a los 21 años y se prometió mantener viva la memoria de sus muertos y narrar su historia para que las jóvenes generaciones no la olviden.

Así lo hizo cuando emigró a Córdoba junto a otra sobreviviente Sonia Schulman, a quien conoció en Italia y se convirtió en su compañera de vida. Llegaron a la Argentina el 15 de noviembre de 1949 y después de un arduo caminar, se recibió de ingeniero civil y formó su familia: tuvieron tres hijos y siete nietos. Sonia falleció a los 92 años.

Edgar Wildfeuer nunca pudo cerrar esas cicatrices. Por eso se dedicaba a dar charlas, participaba de conferencias junto a la Delegación de Asociaciones Israelitas Argentinas (Daia) de Córdoba y publicó su libro “Auschwitz 174.189: testimonio de un sobreviviente”.

Tras su fallecimiento, el rabino Marcelo Polakoff publicó la siguiente carta:

Preparó su partida con las mismas manos de artesano con las que vivió sus maravillosos 98 años.
Esperó que arribe Doris desde Buenos Aires para tenerla cerca de Ana y de Mauricio, sus tres hijos. La familia ampliada lo acompañó a Carlos Paz, y hasta se dio el lujo de compartir la despedida con su bisnieta más bebé.
Cuatro generaciones reunidas en torno a la mesa de Edgar, y el precioso ritual de repasar por horas fotos, videos y anécdotas de aquello que conforma la vida, eso que de tan llano y cotidiano a veces dejamos de atesorar sin darnos cuenta de su inequívoca relevancia.
Una de las mujeres que lo cuidaba confesó que estos últimos días nombraba dormido a su madre, percibiendo sin saberlo (como lo hacen los grandes) que el reencuentro estaba próximo.
Sonia, su amada esposa, desde algún portaretrato misteriosamente también lo convocaba.

Edgar Wildfeuer dejó este plano de existencia volviendo a enseñar, poniendo de vuelta en evidencia su capacidad única de poder ser portavoz de lo divino, a la usanza de un profeta anónimo que hace de cada acto una ofrenda de dignidad.
Así vivió y así murió. Con una vitalidad que atravesaba el poderío de todo el ejército nazi. Con una bondad que hacía trizas cada crimen de lesa humanidad.
Sin un solo atisbo de venganza, sin un solo destello de rencor.
Con la virtud de la gratitud a flor de piel, Edgar encarnaba lo que muchos de nosotros llamamos un «tzadik», un «justo».

Esos que caen tantas veces y que tantas veces vuelven a levantarse. Esos que para mí y para tantos son maestros en serio. Los que son ejemplo de humanidad. Esos escasos individuos que retrató tan claramente el rey David en el Salmo 15:

«Señor, ¿quién habitará en tu tabernáculo?
¿Quién morará en tu santo monte?
Aquel que se conduce con integridad y trabaja por la justicia. Quien habla la verdad de corazón.
El que no calumnia con su lengua ni hace mal a su prójimo ni admite reproche alguno contra su vecino.
Aquel a cuyos ojos el malvado es menospreciado, pero honra a los que honran a Dios …»
El Salmo concluye afirmando que «quien así vive, vivirá eternamente».
