No a la Desesperación
Mi padre era un niño de 13 años en el Holocausto. Mataron a su padre. La mayoría de los niños de su clase fueron asesinados. Siempre lo llevó consigo, todo este equipaje de dolor, pero no sólo eso. Cuando murió mi hermana pensé que mi mundo se había acabado. Tuve razón, el mundo tal como lo conocía realmente terminó. De allí nació un mundo nuevo. Extraño a mi hermana Michal todos los días de mi vida, pero el mundo que creamos después de su muerte está lleno de bondad. Nos convertimos en una familia más unida, aprendimos que es posible sentir dolor sin dejar que el dolor nos gobierne. Años más tarde, cuando a mi hija Yaeli le diagnosticaron autismo, descubrí que Michal me otorgó poderes que yo no sabía tener.
El mundo tal como lo conocíamos terminó el 7 de octubre. No sólo murieron los muertos, sino también las mentiras que nos dijimos a nosotros mismos, nuestra confianza que se desmoronó como la barrera de Gaza. Podemos permitirnos el dolor y la ira, pero eso no nos llevará a ninguna parte. Tenemos un nuevo mundo que construir. Tenemos una nueva “israelidad” que hacer brotar de la tierra empapada de sangre. Será un insulto para nuestros muertos si no construimos aquí en los próximos años un mundo mejor que antes. Esta es la misión de nuestra vida.
Lo hemos hecho antes. Después del Holocausto, después de la Guerra de Yom Kippur, después del asesinato de Rabin. Ya nos dijimos que estábamos acabados, luego resultó que no. Ya nos dijimos que no nos recuperaríamos y luego nos superamos. Nuestra historia es la historia de construir del polvo, de actualizar una versión, de poder reinventarnos. No volveremos a lo que éramos, no debemos hacerlo. El país en el que nos convertiremos, las personas que seremos deberían merecer lo que hemos perdido.
El futuro no sólo contiene malas opciones. Tiene en sí, opciones mejores también. Mira adelante, pero no a una semana de anticipación, ni con un mes. Mira más lejos, pero no demasiado lejos. ¿Qué ves dentro de un año?

Es verdad que es duro, siempre es duro, pero lo duro nunca nos asustó. Nunca nos ha dolido tanto como ahora, por eso debemos trabajar para que duela menos. Puede que no tengamos control sobre lo que pasó, pero tenemos la capacidad de cambiar lo que sucederá. También podemos y debemos cuidarnos unos a otros. No estamos solos, somos una comunidad. Nos preocupamos unos por otros y tenemos mucho que dar. La gente que nos rodea nos necesita y tenemos mucho que darles.
