El Centro Simon Wiesenthal repudió este jueves la denuncia de Sudáfrica contra Israel ante la Corte Internacional de Justicia por incumplir la Convención de la ONU contra el Genocidio y lamentó que hubiera naciones que manifestaran su apoyo.
El brazo latinoamericano del organismo escribió en un mensaje que el hecho de que “Sudáfrica haya decidido dilapidar prestigio presentándose como brazo legal de Hamas ante la Corte Internacional de Justicia es lamentable”, y agregó: “Que lo apoyen los declarados aliados de Irán, como Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba y Bolivia, no sorprende”.
Sin embargo, el CSW hizo mención aparte al caso de tres naciones americanas, que resaltó como casos alarmantes. “Lo verdaderamente preocupante es que Brasil, Colombia y Chile manchen de ideología el concepto de Derechos Humanos en la región”, manifestó al respecto.

El CSW consideró «lamentable» que Sudáfrica se presente como brazo legal de Hamas ante la CIJ y no se sorprendió por el apoyo de «los declarados aliados de Irán, como Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba y Bolivia, no sorprende” (REUTERS)El mensaje del Centro se dio el mismo día que se celebró la primera audiencia de este caso en el tribunal de Naciones Unidas, que busca exigir medidas cautelares urgentes contra Israel para que frene sus ofensivas sobre Gaza, las cuales la parte denunciante considera que tienen “una intención genocida”.

La acusación obtuvo rápido respaldo de la Organización de Cooperación Islámica (OCI), Malasia, Turquía, Jordania, Maldivas, Namibia, Pakistán, la Liga Árabe, Bolivia, Colombia, Brasil y Chile.
En el caso del anteúltimo, el apoyo llegó este miércoles luego de que el presidente Lula da Silva se reuniera con el embajador palestino, Ibrahim Alzeben, en Brasilia. A continuación del encuentro, la Cancillería emitió un comunicado en el que informaba que “a la luz de las flagrantes violaciones al derecho internacional humanitario, el Presidente manifestó su apoyo a la iniciativa de Sudáfrica para pedirle a la Corte Internacional de Justicia que le ordene a Israel cesar inmediatamente todos los actos y las medidas que puedan constituir genocidio o crímenes relacionados en los términos de la Convención para la Prevención y la Represión del Crimen de Genocidio”.

Lula ratificó su apoyo a Sudáfrica tras una reunión con el Embajador de Palestina en Brasil (Europa Press)Asimismo, la nota indicó que el país sudamericano sigue defendiendo una solución negociada que contemple la existencia de “dos Estados: uno palestino, económicamente viable y conviviendo con Israel en paz y seguridad, dentro de las fronteras mutuamente acordadas e internacionalmente reconocidas”.

Colombia emitió un comunicado en el que «saluda la demanda presentada por Sudáfrica contra Israel» (EFE)Por su parte, Chile, el tercer país sobre el cual el CSW manifestó su preocupación, confirmó en las últimas horas que sus servicios jurídicos y diplomáticos se encuentran preparando los documentos necesarios para sumarse a la denuncia de Sudáfrica a la brevedad. La idea había sido adelantada la última semana por la embajadora del país ante la ONU, Paula Narváez, al asegurar que su nación “no permanecerá indiferente frente a la actual situación y al dolor del pueblo palestino”.
“Por tal razón, Chile presentará prontamente la remisión de la situación en Palestina (…) para solicitar se investiguen los crímenes internacionales que se cometen en los territorios palestinos ocupados”, declaró.
