Gideon Sa’ar, ministro de Relaciones Exteriores israelí, felicitó a Edmundo González y María Corina Machado por ganar las elecciones en Venezuela.
A través de X, el canciller israelí afirmó: «Conversé esta noche con el presidente electo de Venezuela, Edmundo González, y con la líder opositora, María Corina Machado. Felicité al presidente por su impresionante victoria en las elecciones y expresé mi esperanza de que la lucha legítima y justa por la libertad y la democracia de los ciudadanos de Venezuela termine pronto y González pueda regresar a su país como presidente».
Además, dijo: «Expresé que me uno al llamado de muchos alrededor del mundo para que el actual gobernante (Nicolás) Maduro, un aliado del régimen asesino de los ayatolás en Irán, respete la voluntad del pueblo expresada en los resultados electorales».
«Invité al presidente electo a visitar Israel y enfaticé la esperanza de Israel de que con el regreso de la democracia a Venezuela se restablezcan las relaciones diplomáticas plenas entre los dos países. ¡Viva Venezuela libre!», concluyó Sa’ar.

A principios de este mes, Venezuela anunció en conferencia de prensa que tiene detenido a un ciudadano israelí, a quien llamó «mercenario».
Luego, el ministro israelí había manifestado: «Hoy, 10 de enero, Edmundo González Urrutia, el presidente electo de Venezuela que ganó las elecciones presidenciales por una amplia mayoría, se supone que tomaría posesión. Sin embargo, los resultados electorales no se están respetando y su toma de posesión no se está llevando a cabo».
Y añadió: «El gobernante, Nicolás Maduro, aliado de Irán, debe honrar la voluntad del pueblo de su país. Israel expresa preocupación por la persecución política y las detenciones arbitrarias por parte del régimen y se suma al llamado de muchos en la comunidad internacional para restaurar la libertad y la democracia en Venezuela».
