A media mañana de este domingo, la radio pública israelí se hizo eco de una información difundida por la agencia noticiosa oficial siria “San´a” en la que se citaba a fuentes militares sirias diciendo que “hemos frustrado totalmente un nuevo ataque con misiles lanzado por Israel”. No se daba ningún detalle. Poco después, Israel informó que su sistema defensivo “Cúpula de Hierro” había interceptado exitosamente un misil “disparado hacia el Golan” en la frontera norte entre Israel y Siria.
En realidad, no necesariamente se trata de una contradicción. Si bien no hay ninguna referencia explícita de Israel al informe original de fuentes sirias, si éste es verídico, bien podría explicarse la dinámica desatada después: supuestamente Israel habría atacado y al responder la defensa anti-aérea siria, la “Cúpula de Hierro” captó que uno de esos misiles iba a impactar en el Golan israelí, por lo cual activó un proyectil para destruirlo en el aire antes de que caiga en una zona habitada.
Lo que al parecer podría aclarar lo sucedido-aunque por deducción y no por confirmaciones oficiales-son las declaraciones del Primer Ministro Netanyahu antes de partir de Chad de regreso a Israel al finalizar su visita oficial: “Tenemos una política fija: actuar contra los intentos de Irán de establecerse en Siria y contra todo aquel que trata de dañarnos. Esta política no cambia cuando yo estoy en Israel y no cambia cuando estoy realizando una visita histórica a Chad. Es una política fija”.
El significado de este comentario parece evidente, aunque es menos explícito que las declaraciones de Netanyahu el domingo de la semana pasada en las que por primera vez confirmó ante cámaras que Israel había sido el autor del ataque del viernes anterior a blancos iraníes en Siria. Es más: dijo que en los últimos años habían sido atacados “cientos de blancos iraníes” en territorio sirio.
