El patinador ruso Anton Shulepov compitió en dos ocasiones en el mes de noviembre con un número en el que utilizó música de la película La lista de Schindler y usó un atuendo que denota parcialmente el uniforme tanto de un prisionero de campo de concentración como el de un oficial nazi.
Pese a las críticas que Shulepov había recibido desde el primero de los eventos en que compitió, en el Internacionales de Francia entre el 1 y 3 de noviembre, la polémica se desató totalmente este fin de semana, cuando la Unión Internacional de Patinaje (ISU, por sus siglas en inglés) anunció que su vestuario estaba nominado para el mejor del año.
Esto causó amplia controversia en las redes sociales, sobre todo, bajo el punto de que el atuendo fue considerado ofensivo para algunos.
“El hecho de que Shulepov esté incluido en el mejor uniforme es profundamente ofensivo. Algunos de nosotros perdimos familia en el Holocausto. La Estrella de David amarilla es lo que marcaba a la gente ordinaria para morir, solo porque eran judíos. No es una película nada más. Gente de verdad murió”, comentó una usuaria en Twitter.
Otros de los cuestionamientos a la ISU fue: “Hay lineamientos en el manual de reglas que establecen deducciones a mujeres que exponen su vientre o que no tienen faldas lo bastante largas. ¿Cuándo habrá medidas así a tomar contra vestuarios racistas como el de Shulepov?”.
Tras la controversia generada, la ISU aseguró haber cometido un error, cambió el uniforme nominado de Shulepov y externó sus disculpas: “Lamentamos que por un error el atuendo equivocado (un atuendo de patinaje libre en lugar de uno de programa corto) de Shulepov fue presentado para votación”.
“El error ha sido corregido y la ISU se disculpa de manera sincera por esta equivocación y por los malos sentimientos que ha causado”, agregó en el comunicado.
De esta manera, el atuendo de programa corto de Shulepov es el que ahora está listado entre los nominados, uno que se compone de un conjunto de color azul y negro sin ninguna referencia al Holocausto.
