Fuerzas de seguridad israelíes iniciaron la evacuación de dos viviendas en el centro de Hebrón, en la que se habían instalado colonos judíos.
Efectivos de la Policía de Fronteras comenzaron la evacuación por la fuerza de decenas de colonos que se encontraban en las casas, situadas cerca de la Tumba de los Patriarcas, en el centro de la ciudad vieja de Hebrón, en Judea (sur de Cisjordania).
Los colonos judíos, escoltados por equipos profesionales para tirar abajo puertas, entraron en dos viviendas que se encontraban vacías en el barrio de Avraham Avinu y que aseguraron haber comprado.
Poco después, se produjeron enfrentamientos entre palestinos e israelíes al arrojar piedras los primeros a los colonos judíos.
Tropas del Ejército de Defensa de Israel (Tzáhal) emplearon medios antidisturbios y cerraron todas las entradas a las viviendas a fin de impedir que se recrudecieran los altercados.
El intendente del asentamiento judío de Kiriat Arbá, en Hebrón, presentó al Ejército de Defensa de Israel unos documentos que, aseguró, confirmaban la adquisición de las viviendas, extremo que las autoridades están verificando.
El suceso se produce en un momento de extrema tensión en la zona, donde se han producido decenas de ataques en los últimos meses en el contexto de una ola de violencia en el que ya han sido asesinados 26 israelíes y tres extranjeros y que ha dejado 161 palestinos muertos, en su gran mayoría agresores.
La compra y toma de las estructuras en el casco antiguo de Hebrón expande significativamente la presencia de asentamientos judíos en la ciudad y ha sido considerada por los colonos «una respuesta apropiada a la terrible ola de terrorismo que lleva cerca de medio año en Israel, en la que los judíos son asesinados y a diario».
El ministro para la Absorción de Inmigrantes y Asuntos de Jerusalén, Zeev Elkin, del partido Likud, felicitó a «los colonos de Hebrón por su acción determinante para la expansión de la presencia judía en la ciudad de nuestros antepasados».
Con 200 mil habitantes, Hebrón es la ciudad cisjordana palestina más poblada en cuyo centro residen cerca de 800 colonos judíos fuertemente protegidos por el Ejército de Defensa de Israel. EFE y Aurora
