Grandma Cooks Gourmet, un proyecto en el que ancianos sobrevivientes del Holocausto colaboraron con 24 chefs en Israel, ganó el tercer lugar en la prestigiosa categoría del mejor libro de cocina del mundo en el Gourmand International.
El libro, un proyecto emprendido por la organización de Shorashim, también ganó el tercer lugar en la categoría del mejor libro de cocina sin fines de lucro y el sello del mejor en el mundo por Gourmand, la competencia de libro de cocina principal del mundo.
En el proyecto, cada persona mayor creó un plato clásico inspirado en el país de origen de los altos como el cocinero que acompaña preparó una variación moderna y actualizada del mismo. El libro documentó los emocionantes encuentros entre los ancianos y los chefs, las recetas y platos creados durante la reunión, así como la historia personal de los participantes.
Durante la competición celebrada en Yantai, China, la presidenta del grupo Shorashim Tami Shachnai obtuvo aplausos cuando subió al escenario y levantó la bandera israelí. «Cuando la gente escuchó sobre el concepto del libro, derramaron una lágrima, este libro tiene su propia vida», dijo Shachnai informe El Faro Israel.
«Comenzó como un pequeño proyecto que se convirtió en una bola de nieve, cuando más y más personas fueron expuestas a ella y pidió a ayudar a vender, comprar y distribuir en todas las formas posibles», añadió.
Hasta ahora, el libro ha vendido 11.000 ejemplares en Israel y todas las ganancias se destinan a financiar actividades de enriquecimiento para sobrevivientes del Holocausto y ancianos.
El libro, que también fue traducido al inglés, pronto será publicado en una nueva edición con el mismo prestigioso sello Best in the World galardonado en la competencia.
