Una historia conmovedora sobre el Holocausto

«El chico sobre la caja de madera. Memorias del sobreviviente más joven de la lista de Schindler», escrita por León Leyson, relata la historia vivida por un niño judío antes y durante el Holocausto, y de cómo el empresario Oskar Schindler lo rescató de las garras de la muerte.

«Era el seis de septiembre de 1939, menos de una semana después de haber cruzado la frontera polaca, los alemanes estaban en Cracovia. Aún no sabíamos que nuestros días en el infierno comenzaban», describe el autor en su obra.

Leyson tenía diez años cuando los nazis invadieron Polonia y, junto con sus familias, se refugiaron en el gueto de Cracovia, hasta que los enviaron al campo de concentración de Plaszów.

>»Vi que mi madre cruzaba las puertas del gueto sin inconvenientes; cuando llegó mi turno de pasar, un guardia me jaló para apartarme de la fila. Pensó que era demasiado joven y débil para ser útil».

Quien relata esta historia en primera persona es la única de la lista del empresario que escribió sus memorias. Terminada la guerra, el escritor se mudó con su familia a Los Ángeles donde se casó y fue maestro de una escuela secundaria.

Schindler salvó la vida del chico diciendo que el pequeño León era indispensable, ya que era el único que, por su tamaño, podía accionar una palanca que ponía en marcha una máquina en particular. Y para ello, el niño debía pararse encima de una caja de madera.

Es un libro lleno de historias intensas de supervivencia, de gran valor histórico y humano. Cuenta con momentos dolorosos sobre el desamparo, el dolor, la humillación y el hambre relatados por la inocente mirada de un niño.

«Su relato nos permite conocer también qué pasó con los sobrevivientes del Holocausto, en los años posteriores. Sus terribles condiciones de refugiados, las penurias que tuvieron que atravesar, los esfuerzos por armar una vida nueva lejos del horror», comentan desde la editorial V&R.

Luego de la película «La lista de Schindler», de Steven Spielberg, León se animó a hablar sobre sus experiencias en público y pensar en la publicación de un libro.

El testimonio brindado en el texto, captura la inocencia y ternura de un adolescente que pasa por situaciones límites. Allí expone su falta de rencor, su certeza y dignidad. (Terra)
