Hungría pidió perdón a las Naciones Unidas (ONU) por haber participado de la muerte de 450.000 judíos húngaros que murieron en la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Este país fue aliado de Alemania durante 1939-1945.
El embajador húngaro ante la ONU, Csaba Körösi, quién inauguró una muestra del Holocausto en ese país, expresó anoche en Nueva York: «El Estado húngaro es culpable de no haber defendido a sus ciudadanos de la muerte y por haber colaborado con el exterminio, que al mismo tiempo, apoyo con fondos materiales. Además agregó: «Debe tener un lugar en la memoria e identidad nacional».
Está es la primera vez que un país pide disculpas ante la ONU por su responsabilidad en el Holocausto. Hungría había pedido perdón por primera vez en 1994, en una declaración del entonces primer ministro, Guyula Hornante en el Parlamento de Budapest.
