La dirección Pasteur 633 quedó grabada en la memoria de todos, después de que aquella fatídica mañana del 18 de julio de 1994 un atentado terrorista contra la sede de la AMIA dejara el doloroso saldo de 85 muertos y más de 300 heridos.
La nueva construcción de la AMIA fue inaugurada el 26 de mayo de 1999. Hoy, el edificio de la institución es un ícono del barrio de Once, que conjuga sobre sus paredes criterios de seguridad, funcionalidad, diseño, arte y memoria.
AMIA quiso renacer en el mismo lugar que fue atacado. Y por eso se decidió permanecer en el mismo lugar. El edificio fue construido sobre el pozo y las ruinas del viejo edificio -cuya construcción databa de 1945- como una manera de simbolizar el triunfo sobre la muerte.
“El 26 de mayo volvamos juntos a nuestra casa, Pasteur 633”, rezaba uno de los volantes que se distribuyeron para convocar al acto de reinauguración. Casi cinco años después del atentado, el edificio abrió sus puertas oficialmente a las 9.53, a la misma hora en la que explotó la bomba en la sede de la mutual. La reinauguración tuvo como lema “Por la justicia y por la vida”.
LUGARES DE LA MEMORIA
El frente de la AMIA es una invitación a la memoria. Sobre las planchas negras que cuelgan del frente de la sede figuran cada uno de los nombres de las 85 personas que perdieron la vida en el atentado.
Desde el 30 de junio del año pasado, la fachada de la AMIA exhibe “El Muro de la Memoria”, la gigantesca obra creada por Martín Ron, a pedido de la institución, para honrar a las víctimas del ataque terrorista del 18 de julio de 1994, y renovar el pedido de justicia.
“El Muro de la memoria” fue realizado a partir de dos columnas que se conservaron del viejo edificio. Con esta obra, la institución buscó volver a hacer visibles esas marcas de su antigua sede, que permanecieron tras la destrucción, y poder resignificarlas y ponerlas en valor a partir del arte urbano (“street art”) o callejero.
Otro lugar vinculado con el ejercicio de la memoria se encuentra en la plaza seca del edificio, con el monumento a las Víctimas de la AMIA, del israelí Yaacov Agam, escultor y artista plástico y cinético premiado y reconocido mundialmente.
ÚLTIMA REMODELACIÓN
En marzo de este año, AMIA dejó oficialmente inauguradas las obras de remodelación, que se realizaron en el ingreso y en los espacios donde se desarrolla la actividad cultural en la sede de Pasteur.
Las refacciones que incluyeron reformas en el hall central, el auditorio y el Espacio de Arte se enmarcan en las iniciativas encaradas por la institución en el marco de su 125º aniversario, y fueron efectuadas gracias al programa de Mecenazgo del Ministerio de Cultura de la ciudad de Buenos Aires.
En el acto de reinauguración, también se descubrió el mural “Las estrellas y un navío”, del reconocido artista Luis Wells, quien firmó la obra que donó a la entidad y que quedará exhibida de manera permanente en la planta baja del edificio.
