Israel presentó el primer avión totalmente eléctrico del mundo

Eviation Aircraft Ltd., una compañía de aviación israelí, exhibió esta semana en el Salón Aeronáutico de París el Eviation Alice, un avión de pasajeros totalmente eléctrico.

La apariencia inusual y moderna del Alice, que el CEO de Eviation, Omar Bar-Yohay, describió como “en forma de ballena”, se debe a su eficiencia aerodinámica.

El avión, con capacidad para nueve pasajeros y dos pilotos, puede volar a 273 millas por hora hasta 621 millas con una carga de batería. La batería comprende el 65% del peso del avión.

Eviation ya tiene pedidos de un número de aviones del ”doble de dígitos” de la aerolínea regional estadounidense Cape Air, con la que Eviation firmó su primer acuerdo. Cada avión tendrá un precio de 4 millones de dólares.

“Operando a una parte del costo de los aviones de línea convencionales, nuestra Alice redefinirá la forma en que la gente viaja por la región y marcará el comienzo de una nueva era de vuelos más silenciosos, limpios y rentables”, dijo Bar-Yohay.

El uso de aviones eléctricos, especialmente si “despegan” y se extienden, es un paso en la dirección correcta hacia un medio ambiente más limpio, ya que las altas emisiones de carbono de los aviones estándar han sido motivo de preocupación para los ecologistas. Los aviones eléctricos también pueden reducir potencialmente los altos costos de los viajes en avión debido a la gran cantidad de aviones de petróleo que requieren.

Bar-Yohay, hablando en una conferencia de prensa en el Salón Aeronáutico de París el martes, dijo que el Alice se someterá a pruebas de vuelo este año y luego se someterá a pruebas para su certificación por la Administración Federal de Aviación de Estados Unidos (FAA). La compañía espera que Alice esté lista para su uso comercial en 2022.
