Los equipos femeninos recurrieron a la Corte Suprema de Justicia para exigir que el Estado les diese los mismos presupuestos que al resto. Tras estudiar el caso, la Corte instó a los representantes estatales a que reconsiderasen su posición, y estos finalmente informaron que impondrán una financiación igualitaria.
Las jugadoras pedían la suspensión de una regulación del Ministerio de Cultura y Deportes que limitaba la financiación a deportes que tuvieran al menos tres divisiones, lo que de facto las discriminaba frente a los equipos de varones.
Así, este año, cualquier equipo en la Primera Liga de Mujeres recibirá entre 150.000 y 200.000 shekels (entre 43.000 y 57.000 dólares) más de lo que recibe ahora, lo que supone un incremento en algunos casos de más del 100%, permitiendo un absoluto crecimiento y desarrollo.
«Este ha sido el disparo de salida en una carrera hacia el cambio necesario», declaró la futbolista Oshrat Eni, que considera que esto supone «el reconocimiento de haber cometido un error durante años» y asegura que «es necesario cambiar el criterio para destinar fondos. Es necesario desarrollar el fútbol femenino a través de financiación extra, mayor visibilidad, mejores infraestructuras y un cambio en la gestión».
Para Eni, una gestión profesional de la Liga traerá «un cambio en el reconocimiento social que llevará a que más chicas jueguen al fútbol en todo el país y se desarrollen como jugadoras profesionales».
