El nuevo dispositivo, que lleva el nombre de myhomedoc, cuenta con sensores que se ajustan al teléfono celular con facilidad y permiten sacar fotos de los tímpanos de los oídos, la faringe, oír los sonidos del corazón y los pulmones por medio de un estetoscopio digital, medir la fiebre y el pulso, e incluso determinar el nivel de oxígeno en la sangre.
Por medio de una conexión bluetooth, los resultados se registran en el smartphone, y se envían al médico de cabecera, que ve las imágenes, oye los sonidos grabados y puede hacer un diagnóstico del problema estando el paciente lejos de él. La idea del dispositivo surgió de la mente de Nir Raz y su esposa Shiri, que buscaban una manera de evitar la necesidad de ir con el hijo enfermo a la policlínica, lo que podría aumentar el riesgo de contagiarse y contraer enfermedades infecciosas como la gripe o el sarampión.
Fabricar el artefacto llevó unos tres años, en los que se hicieron pruebas rigurosas y exhaustivas que mostraron que las simulaciones o imágenes que indica el dispositivo son exactas y precisas. Actualmente se están haciendo pruebas en Estados Unidos, con objeto de enviar el dispositivo a la FDA para su autorización. Al mismo tiempo se estudiará en uno de los hospitales de Israel.
«Esperamos que el dispositivo reemplace las múltiples visitas al médico», expresó Shabtai Negri, CEO de la compañía en desarrollo, «Se espera que facilite los sistemas de salud para reducir la carga y también facilite a los pacientes que pueden evitar la clínica y enviar la prueba desde cualquier parte del mundo». En unos pocos meses, el dispositivo salió a la venta en Israel y en todo el mundo.
A diferencia de otros dispositivos de la competencia que hay en el mercado, se prevé que el invento israelí cueste la tercera parte. Además, permite llevar a cabo el examen también “offline”, y enviarle los resultados al médico en otro momento.
