Un grupo de 347 rabinos ha firmado una carta abierta al precandidato demócrata a la presidencia de EE.UU., que dice apoyar el papel del Comité de Asuntos Públicos Americano Israelí (AIPAC) en el avance de la relación entre EE.UU e Israel, y rechazar sus “comentarios escandalosos”. El candidato a la presidencia de los Estados Unidos, Bernie Sanders, calificó a Netanyahu de «racista reaccionario»
El senador por Vermont afirmó el sábado que la organización ofrece una plataforma “para líderes que expresan intolerancia”.

AIPAC respondió tachando los comentarios del legislador como “verdaderamente vergonzosos” y los consideraron un “ataque de odio contra esta organización político estadounidense bipartidista”.

Esta reacción fue por demás inusual ya que el grupo normalmente evita las disputas públicas con los líderes políticos de EE.UU.

“Como partidarios firmes de la relación entre EE.UU. e Israel y el papel de AIPAC en su promoción, rechazamos el escandaloso comentario del senador Bernie Sanders acusando a AIPAC de fomentar la intolerancia”, dijeron los rabinos en la misiva.

“La misión de AIPAC es una que nos preocupa mucho a nosotros y a nuestros devotos”, continuaron. “A través de AIPAC, presionamos al Congreso para que apoye a nuestro aliado democrático y fortalezca el apoyo bipartidista de larga data para una asociación que beneficie a ambas naciones”.

“AIPAC es uno de los últimos vehículos restantes en la política estadounidense que busca de manera proactiva reunir a estadounidenses de todo el espectro político para lograr un objetivo común”, continúa la carta. “La Conferencia de Política de AIPAC puede ser la reunión política más grande de demócratas y republicanos en todo el país”, declara el documento.

La carta finaliza diciendo que los rabinos “han visto a los presidentes y primeros ministros, miembros del Congreso y miembros de la Knéset, analistas de políticas y expertos militares, líderes religiosos e íconos culturales, de todo el espectro político, dirigirse a la conferencia”, concluyó.

El favorito está dando legitimidad a un movimiento que busca hacer que AIPAC sea tóxico dentro del Partido Demócrata.
