Madison Cawthorn (25), un candidato republicano de derecha, eliminó fotos de su Instagram de unas vacaciones donde visitó un retiro nazi en Alemania.
En 2017, durante unas vacaciones en Alemania, Cawthorn visitó Kehlsteinhaus, un edificio que funcionó como retiro nazi y Adolf Hitler concurrió varias veces.
El lunes, el candidato eliminó las imágenes tras difundirse un informe sobre sus ideas de tomar referencias de otros republicanos de extrema derecha.
«Está siguiendo el libro de jugadas de otros republicanos de extrema derecha que fueron exitosos en los últimos años», se lee en el informe de Jezabel.
Además de llamar «Führer» a Hitler, un término de reverencia, Cawthorn nombró a su empresa de bienes raíces SPQR, popular entre los nacionalistas blancos. En su casa tiene una bandera estadounidense que la Liga Anti-Difamación dice que se la apropiaron los extremistas de extrema derecha.
En el posteo sobre el retiro nazi, previo a que lo borrara, se leía que visitar ese lugar estaba «en su lista de deseos».
Las imágenes comenzaron a circular en las redes sociales. Entre los que compartieron las fotos en Twitter se encontraba Moe Davis, su rival demócrata.
«El retiro de vacaciones de Hitler no está en mi lista de deseos», escribió Davis en su Twitter.
Ambos están compitiendo para ocupar el lugar en el Congreso que dejó vacante Mark Meadows, ahora jefe de gabinete de Donald Trump.
