Una canción pop africana basada en una melodía Gospel sobre Jerusalén se volvió viral en internet. Ya se baila en todo el mundo
«Jerusalema» fue escrita en el 2019 por el productor sudafricano Master KG y grabada con la participación en voces de su compatriota Nomcebo Zikode.
La canción, compuesta en base a excitantes ritmos africanos que prácticamente «obligan» a bailar, está basada en una antigua melodía gospel, una plegaria cantada para elevar la voz de los fieles hacia Dios.
Poco después de su lanzamiento y cuando empezó a tener difusión en las radios, «Jerusalema» se convirtió rápidamente en un éxito local. Ganó espacio en el rico mercado musical sudafricano.
Pero, unos meses después, un videoclip de la canción se filmó en Angola. Jóvenes bailarines protagonizaron una bella y compleja coreografía.
El video se hizo viral, «mucha gente empezó a amar los pasos de baile» y de repente «todos quisieron imitarlos». Así contó recientemente Master KG (cuyo verdadero nombre es Kgaogelo Moagi) en una entrevista con la prensa israelí.
La tendencia continuó a paso arrollador, con el video rápidamente superando las cien millones de visitas . En algún momento, a alguien se le ocurrió crear el hashtag #JerusalemaDanceChallenge.

A partir de allí, el éxito se hizo imparable, con decenas de videos de grupos de bailarines, expertos o aficionados, reproduciendo a su manera los pasos de baile del video en países como Italia, Francia, Estados Unidos, Brasil y la India.
Por supuesto, también llegó a Israel, y a Jerusalén en particular. El futbolista Cristiano Ronaldo publicó en Instagram un video de una reunión familiar con la música de fondo de «Jerusalema».
Master KG reconoció que su canción está inspirada en una vieja melodía religiosa. Cuando se le pidió su opinión sobre la llegada de los pasos de baile a Jerusalem, la ciudad que inspiró su canción, Master KG dijo que se trató de «un momento maravilloso, que me puso muy emocional».
