Las autoridades israelíes han identificado al buque responsable del derrame masivo de petróleo que contaminó la mayor parte de la costa mediterránea del país. Lo informó este miércoles la ministra de Protección Ambiental, Gila Gamliel.
“Hemos puesto nuestras manos en el buque criminal. Nuestro largo alcance llegará a todos aquellos que dañan la naturaleza en el mar y nuestras playas”, tuiteó Gamliel.
También, algunos expertos han calificado el derrame como el peor desastre ambiental que ha golpeado las playas del país en décadas.
Los comentarios de Gamliel se produjeron días después de que su ministerio absolviera a un petrolero griego de la responsabilidad por la fuga de petróleo.
En tanto, el ministerio dijo durante el fin de semana que si bien inicialmente había identificado alrededor de 10 buques potencialmente responsables, nuevas investigaciones lo habían aumentado a docenas de posibilidades.
De esta manera, se lanzó una operación de limpieza masiva después del derrame. Miles de israelíes se ofrecieron como voluntarios para ayudar a limpiar la costa. Lo hicieron junto a trabajadores de la Autoridad de Parques y Naturaleza de Israel e incluso soldados de las FDI.
El Ministerio de Protección Ambiental informó el martes que ya había retirado unas 120 toneladas de arena, desechos y otros materiales contaminados con alquitrán de las playas costeras del norte de Jisr az-Zarqa, Herzliya y Atlit y de Palmachim en el centro de Israel.
Según estimaciones de las autoridades locales, las cinco playas de Haifa han acumulado 162 toneladas de desechos contaminados. 100 toneladas en Atlit, 40 en el norte de Nahariya, 12 en Tel Baruch y diez en las playas de Rishon Lezion y Sironit en Netanya.
De los 13.8 millones de dólares aprobados hace una semana por el gobierno para gastar en el desastre, se asignan 3 millones 24 mil dólares para la eliminación de desechos. Se gastarán 1 millón 512 mil dólares en investigación, monitoreo y encuestas. Mientras que, los 9 millones 72 mil dólares restantes, se dividirán entre las autoridades locales que son directamente responsables de todas las playas, excepto las administradas por INPA.
