El acto central por Yom Hashoá, Día de Recuerdo del Holocausto y el Heroísmo, se llevó a cabo este miércoles en Yad Vashem, en Israel.

La ceremonia, por su parte, contó con la presencia del presidente israelí, Reuvén Rivlin, del primer ministro, Benjamín Netanyahu, dignatarios y sobrevivientes del Holocausto.

Yom Hashoá es una efeméride nacional de conmemoración en Israel en honor a los seis millones de judíos asesinados por los nazis. Es una jornada solemne que comienza a la puesta del sol del 27 de Nisán y finaliza al atardecer siguiente.

En todo el país se realizan ceremonias conmemorativas y los lugares de entretenimiento permanecen cerrados.

Durante el acto, a su vez, se encendieron seis antorchas en representación de los seis millones de judíos asesinados. Las mismas estuvieron a cargo de Shmuel Naar, Zehava Gealel, Yossi Chen, Halina Friedman, Sara Fishman y Manya Bigunov.

Mañana sonará una sirena durante dos minutos en todo el país, con la que se suspende toda actividad, los peatones se detienen, todo medio de transporte deja de circular para detenerse en carretera y se guardan dos minutos de silencio en homenaje a las víctimas del Holocausto.

Posteriormente, el centro de la ceremonia en Yad Vashem es la colocación de ofrendas florales al pie de las seis antorchas, dispuestas por dignatarios y representantes de sobrevivientes u otras instituciones. Otros sitios conmemorativos en Israel, como el Kibutz Lojamei Haguetaot (de los Combatientes del Gueto) o el Kibutz Yad Mordejai, también albergan ceremonias conmemorativas, así como escuelas, bases militares, municipios y algunos lugares de trabajo.

Durante todo el día se emiten programas de radio y televisión dedicados al Holocausto.
