La ONG con sede en EE.UU., Human Rights Watch, acusó a Israel de cometer crimen de apartheid por primera vez en 43 años de historia.

“Un umbral cruzado: las autoridades israelíes y los crímenes de apartheid y persecución“. Así tituló Human Rights Watch (HRW) el informe de 213 páginas en el que afirma que Israel cumplió con la definición legal de crímenes de apartheid establecida por el Estatuto de Roma.

A su vez, HRW pidió a la ONU que verifiquen el reclamo y luego apliquen un embargo de armas contra Israel.

“Voces prominentes advirtieron durante años que el apartheid acecha a la vuelta de la esquina si la trayectoria del gobierno de Israel sobre los palestinos no cambia”, expresó el director ejecutivo de HRW, Kenneth Roth.

“Las autoridades israelíes ya doblaron esa esquina y hoy están cometiendo los crímenes de lesa humanidad del apartheid y la persecución. La opresión de los palestinos alcanzó un umbral y una permanencia que cumple con esas definiciones”, aseveró.

El grupo de israelí NGO Monitor condenó las acusaciones. Dijo que eran parte de una campaña global más amplia para desacreditar a Israel y socavar su identidad como estado judío.

“Este informe es otro paso en la serie de décadas de ataques obsesivos contra Israel y su legitimidad como el estado-nación del pueblo judío”, aseveró NGO.

HRW, por su parte, habló de una definición de tres puntas. La intención de mantener la dominación racial de un grupo sobre otro; un contexto de opresión sistemática de un grupo sobre otro; y actos inhumanos.

El trato de Israel a los palestinos, tanto dentro como fuera del Israel soberano, cumplió con esta definición de los crímenes del apartheid, dijo HRW.
