La cantante argentina Mercedes Sosa descubrió en 1980, durante su primera visita a Israel, que tenía una gran conexión con el país; Nada menos que una tía que vive en Haifa y que, de vez en cuando, también entona temas folklóricos en español
Al cumplirse este viernes un nuevo cumpleaños de Sosa -nacida el 9 de julio de 1935 en la norteña provincia argentina de Tucumán-, la Biblioteca Nacional de Israel aprovechó para recordar en su cuenta de Instagram la historia del reencuentro entre la cantante y su tía.
La publicación de la biblioteca incluyó una foto de la cantante en una playa frente al Mediterráneo y algunos detalles de la reconexión entre Sosa y su tía Rebeca (Rivka) Mozes, que se concretó a partir de una insistente serie de llamadas telefónicas a un hotel de Tel Aviv.
En efecto, cuando la intérprete de «Alfonsina y el mar» se presentó en Israel en 1980, Rebeca ya vivía en el país desde hacía varios años. Había llegado después de casarse en Argentina con su primer novio, también músico, y judío.
Rebeca se convirtió a la religión judía de su esposo antes de hacer «aliá» en los años ’70 Con una inmensa alegría recibió la noticia de que Mercedes Sosa estaba arribando a Israel para una serie de recitales. Averiguó en que hotel se alojaba y empezó a llamar pidiendo hablar con la cantante.
Al principio, los conserjes le explicaron que no podían pasar directamente la comunicación, pero la insistencia valió la pena. La artista argentina finalmente atendió y escuchó a la mujer decirle cuánto la admiraba.
Cuando Sosa ya se aprestaba a saludar y colgar el teléfono de la manera más gentil posible, Rebeca le preguntó: «¿te dice algo el apellido Girón?» (el apellido de soltera de Mozen).

Se trataba del apellido de uno de los abuelos de la cantante. Resultaba ser que Rivka era la hermana menor de la madre de Mercedes.
«¡Tía, tía, tía! No sabes cómo te estaba buscando, ¿qué haces en Israel?», le preguntó Sosa, según la reconstrucción del diálogo que publicó la Biblioteca Nacional.
Así fue que, además de los conciertos, Mercedes terminó compartiendo largas horas con su redescubierta Tía, ahora una ciudadana israelí, viuda y con hijos. «La llevó a comidas familiares e incluso se quedó con ella en el hotel para pasar una noche de recuerdos», añade el posteo.
Entrevistada hace algunos años por el website RadioSefarad, Rebeca contó que, en una de sus actuaciones en Israel, Mercedes Sosa la invitó a cantar con ella en el escenario.
«Es un honor decir que fue mi sobrina y que era una gran persona», resumió Mozes sobre la artista, fallecida en octubre del 2009.
