El gobernador de Texas, Greg Abbott, nombró a cinco personas para la nueva Comisión Asesora sobre Holocausto, Genocidio y Antisemitismo del Estado.
La comisión, creada en septiembre, “realizará un estudio sobre el antisemitismo en el Estado y proporcionará asistencia a las escuelas. Se reunirá con los representantes apropiados de las organizaciones públicas y privadas para proporcionar información, además de diversas tareas educativas en todo el Estado”.
Abbott nombró a Jeffery Beck, miembro de la junta nacional de la Federación Judía del Gran Dallas, para el mandato que expirará el 1 de febrero de 2023. También lo hizo con Kenneth “Kenny” Goldberg, ex presidente del Centro Comunitario Judío de Dallas, informó Israel Noticias.

Para un mandato que expirará el 1 de febrero de 2025, el gobernador nombró a una residente de Austin, Lucy Taus Katz. Ella es sobreviviente del Holocausto y miembro del Comité Directivo de Descendientes de Supervivientes del Holocausto. También eligió a Providence Umugwaneza, de San Antonio.
Umugwaneza sobrevivió al genocidio de 1994 contra la minoría étnica tutsi en Ruanda. Allí perdió a sus padres, cinco hermanos y otros familiares. Ahora dirige programas educativos para concienciar sobre el genocidio.
Abbott también nombró al rabino de la Congregación Beth Israel, Ilan Emanuel, de Corpus Christi. Su mandato expira el 1 de febrero de 2027.
Emanuel es un ex miembro de la junta de la Asociación del Suroeste de Rabinos Reformistas, el Consejo Escolar de la Comunidad Judía de Lincoln y la Federación Judía de Lincoln. Actualmente es miembro de la Conferencia Central de Rabinos Americanos.
