Un endocrinólogo canadiense, cuyas investigaciones ayudaron a desarrollar terapias contra la diabetes y la obesidad, obtuvo el Premio Wolf de Israel en Medicina.
Se trata de Daniel Drucker, de la Universidad de Toronto, quien recibió el galardón “por sus investigaciones sobre las hormonas intestinales y su uso en el tratamiento de la diabetes y otras enfermedades metabólicas”, según informó la Fundación Wolf.
Además, la entidad que concede el premio para promover la excelencia en las artes y las ciencias anunció a todos los ganadores 2023.
En los 45 años transcurridos desde su creación, decenas de galardonados también obtuvieron el Nobel.

Junto con el endocrinólogo nacido en Canadá, los otros triunfadores del Premio Wolf de este año son: Ingrid Daubechies, de la Universidad de Duke, en matemáticas; Chuan He, de la Universidad de Chicago, Hiroaki Suga, de la Universidad de Tokio, y Jeffery W. Kelly, del Instituto de Investigación Scripps, en química; Martinus van Genuchten, de la Universidad Federal de Río de Janeiro, en agricultura; y Fujiko Nakaya, de Japón, y Richard Long, del Reino Unido, en arte.
Los premios se anunciaron el martes en Jerusalén en una ceremonia que comandó Isaac Herzog, presidente de Israel.
“Al observar el trabajo de los galardonados de este año, lo que más me llama la atención no son sólo las facultades del intelecto humano que reflejan, sino la determinación que expresan para aliviar el sufrimiento humano y mejorar la vida en la Tierra”, declaró.
La ceremonia de entrega está prevista para junio.
