Roger Waters, otra vez: le pidió a Stevie Wonder que no acepte el Premio Wolf de Israel

El músico Roger Waters, cofundador de Pink Floyd, le pidió a la estrella Stevie Wonder que rechazara el Premio Wolf porque proviene de Israel.

En febrero de este año, el presidente israelí Reuven Rivlin anunció que tanto Wonder como la compositora australiana Olga Neuworth recibirían el premio, el cual se le otorga a quienes realizaron contribuciones destacadas a las artes y las ciencias.

A través de un video en Twitter, Waters señaló que Wonder canceló una actuación en 2013 en una gala de recaudación de fondos para el ejército israelí. A su vez, enfatizó que Wonder canceló su concierto debido a la «muy delicada situación en el Medio Oriente». Y agregó que esperaba que hiciera lo mismo con el Premio Wolf.

En una entrevista con The Electronic Intifada en 2013, en el momento del concierto, Waters acusó a Israel de ser un «régimen de apartheid», y agregó que publicaría una carta abierta a los músicos de todo el mundo pidiéndoles que se negaran a actuar en Israel y en eventos israelíes.

“Lo que me llevó a escribir esta carta pública fue la contratación de Stevie Wonder para tocar en (la cena de gala a favor de las FDI). Le dije que esto sería como jugar a la pelota policial en Johannesburgo el día después de la masacre de Sharpeville en 1960”, expresó Waters en ese momento.

Esta semana, Waters reiteró su llamado y calificó a Israel como «un régimen de apartheid».
“Esto es Israel. Los blanquearás más allá de toda creencia”, dijo.

Después de que el fundador de Pink Floyd publicara esl video, activistas judíos y pro-Israel reaccionaron a su llamado. “¿Dónde está la condena de Roger a los musulmanes que son torturados en los campos de hoy en día en China? ¿La hambruna en Yemen? Las condenas obsesivas de este hombre están reservadas solo para los judíos. Waters es una vergüenza para la comunidad del entretenimiento, y que cualquiera lo tome en serio en 2021 es ridículo”, manifestó Liora Rez, directora de Stop Antisemitism.
