El presidente del comité, el parlamentario Eliyahu Revivo, pidió al Ministerio de Agricultura que considere “convertir las cuotas de trabajadores palestinos en trabajadores extranjeros en beneficio de los agricultores que necesitan trabajadores estacionales”.
También se espera que miles de trabajadores adicionales sean reclutados para la agricultura y la industria israelíes en países como Malawi y Kenia.
Con la economía de Malawi en graves problemas, miles de personas están dispuestas a aceptar trabajos en granjas y huertos abandonados en medio de la guerra en curso de Israel. Más de 400 malawíes volaron a Israel el mes pasado como parte de un programa de exportación de mano de obra del gobierno de Lilongwe destinado a encontrar empleos para los jóvenes y generar divisas que se necesitan desesperadamente.

Cohen se reunió el mes pasado con su homóloga ecuatoriana, María Sommerfeld, y “discutió la promoción de un acuerdo marco para traer 25.000 trabajadores de Ecuador a Israel en los campos de la construcción y la agricultura”, según un comunicado del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores.
Mientras tanto, el Primer Ministro Benjamín Netanyahu habló sobre la posibilidad de traer trabajadores indios a Israel con el Primer Ministro indio Narendra Modi durante una llamada telefónica el martes.
En un esfuerzo por evitar la explotación de los trabajadores extranjeros que llegan a Israel para aliviar la escasez de mano de obra causada por la guerra, los legisladores aprobaron el martes una serie de regulaciones destinadas a limitar el pago que las agencias privadas pueden cobrar a los trabajadores extranjeros que llegan fuera del marco de acuerdos bilaterales.
Según las nuevas regulaciones a las que dio luz verde el Comité de Trabajo y Bienestar de la Knesset, el cargo máximo permitido es 2.963 NIS, o 810 dólares. La normativa se aplicará a los trabajadores que lleguen entre el 5 de noviembre y el 4 de febrero.
