En el contexto actual de la guerra de Israel contra Hamas, el Congreso Judío Latinoamericano llevó adelante la séptima edición de su encuesta anual a referentes comunitarios judíos en los países de Latinoamérica. La encuesta revela aspectos clave sobre cómo la diáspora judía se vio afectada en la región.
Si bien el escenario en medio oriente es preocupante, la gran cifra alentadora de la encuesta es que el 86% de los encuestados aún considera que es seguro vivir abiertamente como judío en su país. Sin embargo, también es importante tener en cuenta que representa una disminución del 10% en comparación con el año 2022, lo que indica un cambio en la percepción de seguridad dentro de la comunidad.
Se ve que el conflicto entre Israel y Hamás tiene un efecto directo en la preocupación por el antisemitismo dado que aumentó significativamente pasándo de ser del 36% en 2022 al 58% en 2023. En la misma línea, uno de cada cinco de los referentes encuestados percibe un alto grado de antisemitismo en sus países, y un abrumador 88% siente que este ha aumentado a raíz del conflicto. Es notable que la percepción sobre la presencia de un alto grado de antisemitismo se ha triplicado desde la última encuesta, pasando del 6% al 18%. A pesar de este incremento, es alentador que tres cuartas partes de los encuestados subrayen la importancia de combatir todas las formas de discriminación, no solo el antisemitismo.

En cuanto a las respuestas comunitarias a estos desafíos, el 67% de los participantes en la encuesta evalúa positivamente las acciones de las instituciones judías para hacer frente al antisemitismo, un porcentaje que se ha mantenido estable desde 2022.
En cuanto a las causas percibidas del antisemitismo en Latinoamérica, tres de cada cuatro encuestados señala al antisionismo como el principal argumento antisemita en la región. Esta percepción ha aumentado en doce puntos porcentuales en el último año.
En una región que ha experimentado episodios de terrorismo contra comunidades judías, la preocupación por ser objetivo de ataques ha crecido significativamente, pasando de un 67% a un 77%. Además, en términos generales, se percibe que los diferentes actores de la sociedad latinoamericana se han pronunciado de manera desfavorable respecto a Israel.
Los eventos del 7 de octubre en Israel marcan un punto de inflexión, tras el cual la vida judía en América Latina parece haber cambiado.
