Catar está cerca de finalizar un acuerdo con Hamás para transferir medicamentos recetados a los rehenes israelíes en Gaza.
Según fuentes conocedoras del asunto, tanto Israel como el grupo terrorista coinciden sobre el acuerdo, y ambas partes están resolviendo los aspectos logísticos de la transferencia de medicamentos a los rehenes.
Los detalles del acuerdo fueron reportados por primera vez por The New York Times. Según el informe, Catar también está avanzando en un acuerdo para permitir el ingreso de más medicamentos a la Franja de Gaza.
A principios de esta semana, familiares de rehenes cautivos en Gaza se reunieron con el primer ministro y canciller de Catar, el jeque Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani. Daniel Lifshitz, nieto Oded Lifshitz, cautivo en Gaza, dijo que las familias abordaron el tema de los medicamentos durante su reunión.
Según el portal, Husam Badran, alto funcionario de Hamás, confirmó que las conversaciones se están llevando a cabo “con gran positividad”. Un funcionario israelí afirmó que Israel ha acordado en principio permitir la entrada de más medicamentos a Gaza, tanto para los rehenes como para la población palestina.
Aún se encuentran 136 rehenes cautivos en Gaza, entre ellos 25 se han confirmado muertos.
Un informe emitido por las familias de los rehenes afirma que un tercio de los secuestrados padecen enfermedades crónicas que requieren medicamentos, sin los cuales corren peligro de muerte inmediato.
Según la información, los daños causados a los rehenes, que sufren torturas físicas y mentales, incluidas agresiones sexuales, hambre y negación de agua, podrían ser irreversibles e incluso mortales. Por lo tanto, cada día adicional en el cautiverio de Hamás implica graves riesgos para su salud.
Por su parte, la ONU señaló que la cantidad de medicamentos que Israel permite actualmente en la Franja de Gaza no satisface las necesidades de la población local.
El director de la sala de maternidad del Hospital Al-Nasser en Khan Yunis, Walid Abu Khattab, dijo en una entrevista con The New York Times que existe una grave escasez de leche en polvo para bebés, anestésicos y vacunas para recién nacidos. “Si las cosas siguen como están, me temo que muchos no sobrevivirán. Estamos ante una situación imposible”, advirtió.
En un acuerdo para la liberación de rehenes acordado en noviembre, Hamás comprometió permitir a la Cruz Roja visitar a los rehenes. Hamás no cumplió con sus obligaciones y no se han realizado estas visitas.
Israel alega que la entidad no está haciendo el esfuerzo para que tales visitas se realicen y no están asegurando que los medicamentos lleguen a los rehenes.
Una fuente familiarizada con las conversaciones confirmó que Hamás expresó su voluntad en principio de permitir las visitas, pero esto no aparece en un documento detallado que aclare a la Cruz Roja cómo hacerlo y cómo garantizar que sus miembros no corran peligro en áreas de batalla.
