Con 48 patentes registradas y aprobadas en Estados Unidos en el 2023, el Technion, la famosa institución educativa tecnológica con base en Haifa, se ubicó en el primer lugar entre las universidades de Israel y de toda Europa en ese terreno.
El ranking de la Academia Nacional de Inventores, basado en datos de la Oficina de Patentes y Marcas de Estados Unidos para el año pasado, puso al Technion en el puesto 65 del mundo, unos pocos lugares detrás de Yale, la New York University y la University of Washington.
La nueva posición marca una escalada de tres lugares desde el 2022, cuando el Technion ocupaba el puesto 68 en el mundo. Los editores del ranking señalaron que la lista «destaca la importancia de las patentes en la aplicación de la investigación y la innovación en el mundo académico».
También resalta «el papel central de las instituciones académicas en el campo de la innovación».
La cartera del Technion incluye actualmente 1.815 patentes registradas y en proceso de solicitud. La comercialización y el registro son liderados por T3, la oficina de transferencia de tecnología de la universidad.
T3 colabora ampliamente con la industria y promueve la creación de startups basadas en el conocimiento del Technion, con cerca de quince nuevas empresas cada año.
Una fuerza impulsora
Rona Samler, la directora general de T3, calificó la performance del Technion en el nuevo ranking como una «destacada hazaña» que «subraya la excelencia científica» del cuerpo docente de la universidad.
«Nuestro compromiso inquebrantable con la innovación y la colaboración» con la industria «sigue siendo una fuerza impulsora detrás de contribuciones impactantes al panorama global», añadió.
Para Samler, este proceso está «solidificando la reputación de Technion como pionero en investigación y avances tecnológicos de vanguardia».
