"La lucha contra el antisemitismo en Chile: un deber colectivo", por Marina Rosenberg

De camino a la boda de su prima, una mujer embarazada, su marido y su hijo de siete años se encontraron atrapados en su automóvil, rodeados por una turba de furiosos y hostiles alborotadores.

La multitud sacudió el vehículo mientras le gritaba “asesino genocida” al niño. Su agresividad se intensificó al ver la barriga de la mujer embarazada, y le gritaron: “¡Embarazada! ¡Llevas dentro un asesino genocida!”.

El 28 de marzo de 2024 se produjo un ataque antisemita en el Estadio Israelita, el centro comunitario judío en Santiago de Chile. Enarbolando banderas palestinas y carteles con insultos y consignas de odio, este incidente es uno de los muchos a los que se enfrenta la comunidad judía de Chile, especialmente desde el ataque de Hamás contra Israel el 7 de octubre.

La conmovedora reflexión de la madre sobre la experiencia pone de relieve el profundo costo emocional de la hostilidad antisemita y la urgencia de hacerle frente. Ella afirma que “es un sentimiento primitivo profundamente arraigado y transmitido. No permite ningún tipo de introspección o diálogo. No es motivado por la política, la religión o la defensa de los derechos humanos. Es odio y nada más”.

Como vicepresidenta sénior de Asuntos Internacionales de la Liga Antidifamación (ADL), y como ex embajadora de Israel en Chile, estoy profundamente preocupada por el alarmante aumento del sentimiento antijudío en Chile.

Usted también debería estarlo.

Estos reprobables actos no son hechos aislados, sino parte de una preocupante tendencia que amenaza los valores fundamentales de tolerancia, diversidad y respeto mutuo sobre los que se construye nuestra sociedad. Los relatos de primera mano compartidos por miembros de la comunidad judía pintan un angustioso panorama de intimidación, miedo y odio dirigidos contra ellos únicamente por su identidad.

Esta narrativa nos recuerda crudamente la naturaleza insidiosa del antisemitismo y su capacidad para impregnar incluso los entornos más inocuos.

Los testimonios de quienes han experimentado la hostilidad antisemita de primera mano subrayan la urgente necesidad de aunar esfuerzos para hacer frente a esta oleada de odio. Es fundamental que nosotros, como sociedad, nos solidaricemos con la comunidad judía y condenemos inequívocamente el antisemitismo en todas sus formas.

Tal como lo haríamos por cualquier otra comunidad marginada, ahora es nuestro momento de defender a la comunidad judía. Al enfrentar el flagelo del antisemitismo en Chile, es imperativo reconocer el papel que juega el liderazgo en la formación del discurso y las actitudes públicas. Lamentablemente, las recientes acciones antiisraelíes de los líderes políticos suscitan la preocupación de que estén contribuyendo a crear un clima de hostilidad hacia su propia comunidad judía. La tardía condena del presidente Gabriel Boric al reprobable ataque de Hamás contra Israel el 7 de octubre, junto con la presentación de una demanda contra Israel ante la Corte Penal Internacional, y la ausencia de cualquier compromiso directo con la comunidad judía desde que asumió el cargo, son solo algunos de los preocupantes ejemplos.

Tales acciones no solamente socavan las relaciones diplomáticas con Israel, sino que también pueden exacerbar las tensiones y alimentar los sentimientos antisemitas en el país. Aunque las críticas a las políticas israelíes son indubitablemente legítimas, la agresiva postura antiisraelí de Boric y el gobierno chileno se considera un acto de hostilidad hacia la comunidad judía chilena.

Es esencial que los líderes, ya sea en Chile, en Estados Unidos o en cualquier otro país, reconozcan la responsabilidad que tienen en el fomento de una sociedad inclusiva y respetuosa, que rechace el odio y la discriminación en todas sus formas.

Los líderes tienen sus obligaciones, pero nosotros también las tenemos.

En medio de la adversidad, inspirémonos en los actos cotidianos de resiliencia de la comunidad judía. Pensemos en la madre, su marido y su hijo pequeño, rodeados de hostilidad, pero inquebrantables en su dignidad y compasión. A pesar del miedo y la incertidumbre de la situación, la madre aprovechó el momento para impartir una valiosa lección a su hijo.

Ella relata su respuesta a la angustiosa situación: “¿Ves a esta gente?”, le preguntó a su hijo, señalando los rostros enfadados de la multitud. “Están consumidos por la ira, pero fíjate en cuántos se tapan la cara. En el fondo, saben que sus acciones están mal”.

En ese momento crucial, transmitió un mensaje directo pero potente: “A diferencia de ellos, nosotros no albergamos odio en nuestros corazones. A pesar de los obstáculos que encontramos, defendemos la luz, no la oscuridad”.

Sus acciones y sus palabras nos recuerdan la resiliencia y la humanidad inherentes a la comunidad judía, una resiliencia arraigada en la dignidad, la compasión y una firme determinación.

Saquemos fuerzas de estos ejemplos para hacer frente al antisemitismo.

Solo mediante la acción colectiva y un compromiso inquebrantable con la justicia y la igualdad, podemos aspirar a erradicar el flagelo del antisemitismo y construir una sociedad en la que todas las personas sean tratadas con dignidad, respeto y compasión.
