El mundo judío celebrará Shavuot a partir de esta noche

La comunidad judía de todo el mundo comenzará esta noche a celebrar Shavuot, una de las festividades con más simbología positiva del calendario judío.

A diferencia de muchos de los días de festejo o conmemoración del año judío, los motivos de Shavuot no tienen que ver con desgracias. No hay en los muchos significados de esta fiesta ni enemigos, ni guerras ni malvados. Todas esas razones, recurrentes en nuestra tradición, se reemplazan por tres significados puramente positivos.

Jag Matan Torá. La fiesta en la que recordamos aquel evento tan lejano y tan cercano, a la vez que simbólicamente nos presentamos todos juntos como pueblo bajo el Monte Sinaí para asumir la Torá como fuente de vida, inspiración e identidad solidaria.

Jag Hakatzir. La fiesta de la cosecha; la alegría de llegar al final de un proceso para observar con orgullo y humildad; las primicias de aquello que tiempo atrás sembramos.

Meguilat Rut. Una pastoral historia de amor cuyo tema principal es la inclusión, la fortaleza de los lazos entre las personas, la capacidad de dar y recibir.

Shavuot es también la fiesta de las primicias. Se destaca así como en otras fiestas de peregrinaje la relación íntima del pueblo de Israel con la Tierra de Israel. Antiguamente acostumbraban los campesinos a ascender a Ierushalaim para ofrendar los primeros frutos en el templo. Hoy la costumbre se mantiene ocupando las siete especies típicas el lugar central. El Deuteronomio define a Israel como la «Tierra de trigo y cebada, de vides, higueras y granadas, tierra de olivos, de aceite y de miel.

En el mes de Siván, en Israel se efectúa la cosecha. En esta época del año podemos ver las máquinas de los agricultores cosechando las verdes extensiones de kibutzim y moshavim. Después de la cosecha de los granos es el turno de los frutos de los árboles: peras, manzanas, uvas, duraznos, ciruelas, etc.

Las sinagogas del país, como las de la diáspora, se adornan con los productos de la naturaleza y la fiesta adquiere singular realce entre los pobladores agrícolas. En los kibutzim y moshavim acostumbran a desfilar presentando los frutos de la producción agrícola. Esto se extendió a presentar ante la comunidad las primicias de todas las áreas de la vida comunitaria. También de la industria y a los bebés que nacieron durante ese año.

Existe una relación estrecha entre Pésaj y Shavuot, pero no sólo en vista al cómputo numérico. También a una vinculación esencial que hace al sentido histórico y sociológico de la festividad. En Pésaj sale el pueblo de la esclavitud de Egipto para recibir la Torá en Shavuot.

Llama la atención entonces que justamente la asignación de la fiesta como entrega de la Torá no aparezca mencionada en la Biblia.

A este respecto parece convincente la explicación que sostiene que “no hay un día en la entrega de la Torá. En realidad todos los días del año deben ser momentos revitalizadores de la esencia de la enseñanza de Moisés inspirada por D”s; en cada día de su existencia debe el individuo renovar su pacto con lo trascendente y hacerse cargo de los imperativos éticos. Desde este punto de vista resulta que la Torá no se entregó en el tiempo, en un determinado espacio temporal, sino en la eternidad. Y así como dijeron los sabios que cada hombre del pueblo hebreo debe considerarse como si él mismo salió de Egipto, de la misma manera postulan que cada hombre del pueblo hebreo participó idealmente del pacto culminante del Monte Sinaí y recibió en ese preciso instante la Torá y se comprometió con ella”.

De aquí la falta de mención de esta designación de la festividad en las fuentes bíblicas.

La concepción judía de mando reconoce dos clases de mitzvot: aquellas que se refieren a la relación del Hombre con D”s y aquellas que se refieren a la relación del Hombre con el Hombre, existiendo una interrelación inquebrantable entre ambas, sin que vengan unas en lugar de las otras, sino como partes de una misma UNIDAD.

Por ejemplo, se dice que la creación del el hombre fue a semejanza de D”s, de esta forma se establece la relación del Hombre con D”s. Sin embargo, muchas de las mitzvot que se refieren a la conducta del hombre con su prójimo, en especial la prohibición de matar, tienen su base y su explicación en el principio de la semejanza divina. Paralelamente, las relaciones del hombre con D”s se ven influenciadas y determinadas por la forma en que el hombre se conduce hacia el hombre.

Costumbres y tradiciones
  • La sinagoga se adorna con flores, plantas y frutos para marcar la relación de la fiesta con la naturaleza de Eretz Israel. También como re-memorización de los BIKURIM que se llevaban al Templo.
  • Durante la noche se acostumbra a permanecer reunidos estudiando la Torá: TIKUN LEIL SHAVUOT.
  • La comida característica son los platos lácteos, en vista que el Shir Hashirim (Cantar de los Cantares) alude a la recepción de la Torá con estas palabras: “Miel y leche debajo de tu lengua”.
  • En la víspera de Shavuot se acostumbra cortarse el cabello y la barba, en especial aquellos que guardando el luto no lo hicieron durante la Sefirat Ha Omer (a excepción de Lag-Baomer, fecha en la cual se permite rasurarse).
  • Durante el período del Templo se acostumbraba traer al mismo la ofrenda “Sheté Haléjem” (los dos panes) de las primicias del trigo. Esta costumbre se basa en Vaikrá 23:17: “De vuestras habitaciones traeréis dos panes para ofrenda…”
