El presidente del partido Unidad Nacional, Benny Gantz, analizó los factores que llevaron a su decisión de dimitir del gobierno a principios de esta semana.
En una entrevista con Kan News, Gantz afirmó que el primer ministro, Benjamín Netanyahu, impidió un acuerdo por rehenes por razones políticas.
Criticando la conducta del Gabinete de Guerra, Gantz dijo: «Durante muchos meses, esta campaña se ha llevado a cabo con un acuerdo sobre lo que hay que hacer, por cohesión y considerando los intereses del Estado de Israel. A medida que pasó el tiempo, este sentido ha cambiado».
Además, dijo: «Hemos visto que otras consideraciones han tomado su lugar, por ejemplo, el diseño para los rehenes. Sentados en el Gabinete de Guerra concluyen un esquema, Netanyahu lo aprueba y lo pasa al equipo de negociación. Se presiona, da media vuelta y retrasa al equipo. Todas las cosas se retrasaron por consideraciones que no son relevantes. No tiré un fósforo en la sala y me fui durante meses».

También se refirió a los continuos ataques de Hezbollah: «Prefiero un acuerdo político, hay una frontera entre nosotros y el Líbano. No estoy hablando del Líbano, conozco cada milímetro de allí. Entiendo que ésta es una guerra difícil. Pero probablemente será necesaria. Si podemos evitarla, con la ayuda de la presión política, lo haremos. Si no funciona, tenemos que seguir adelante».
Cuando se le preguntó a Gantz si el gobierno conoce el destino de la familia Bibas, Gantz dijo: «Creo que Israel sabe lo que les pasó a los miembros de la familia Bibas. El público sabrá cuando sea posible verificar las cosas».
Shiri y Yarden Bibas fueron secuestrados por terroristas de Hamás en la mañana del 7 de octubre, junto con sus hijos, Ariel, de 4 años, y Kfir, de 1 año.
El partido Likud respondió: «Es lamentable que Gantz haya decidido sentarse esta noche en los estudios de televisión en lugar de en el gabinete que sigue haciendo todo lo posible para devolver a todos nuestros rehenes y eliminar a Hamás».
El partido Unidad Nacional criticó la respuesta del Likud, diciendo: «Lo que es desafortunado es que Netanyahu continúe sentado en las discusiones, sin tomar decisiones estratégicas que devolverán a nuestros rehenes, devolverán a los residentes del norte y eliminarán a Hamás. No ganamos con discusiones, sólo con acciones».

Su abandono «político» del «barco» en medio de la guerra me aleja definitivamente de su Partido.
