Yarden Bibas fue objeto de burlas y maltrato constante por parte de sus captores de Hamás sobre el destino de su esposa e hijos durante su cautiverio.
Bibas, de 35 años, fue liberado por Hamás el sábado por la mañana junto con Ofer Calderón, de 54, en Khan Younis, en el sur de Gaza, tras casi 16 meses de cautiverio. Además, a Keith Siegel, de 65, lo liberaron dos horas después en el puerto de la ciudad de Gaza.
La organización terrorista hirió y secuestró a Yarden en el kibutz Nir Oz durante el ataque del 7 de octubre de 2023 en el sur de Israel.
Su esposa, Shiri, y sus dos hijos fueron secuestrados por separado. En ese momento, Kfir tenía 10 meses y Ariel 4. Horas después de su secuestro, circuló un video en el que se ve a Shiri con los dos niños en brazos rodeada de terroristas.
Hamás afirmó el año pasado que Shiri y los dos niños murieron en cautiverio y, aunque Israel no lo confirmó, expresó su “grave preocupación” por su situación. La semana pasada exigió que el grupo terrorista aclarara su condición, aún sin respuestas.
A su regreso a Israel el sábado, Kan informó que Bibas fue víctima de graves abusos psicológicos durante su cautiverio. Incluso lo obligaron a filmar un video después de que sus captores le dijeran que Shiri, Ariel y Kfir habían muerto en un ataque aéreo de las FDI.
Los terroristas le hablaron constantemente a Yarden sobre su familia, reveló Kan.

La ex secuestrada Nili Margalit, quien pasó casi 50 días cautiva en manos de Hamás, afirmó en diciembre de 2023 que estuvo en el momento que los terroristas le dijeron a Yarden que su esposa y sus dos hijos pequeños murieron. También presenció el momento en que le ordenaron que filmara el video donde «acusó» al primer ministro, Benjamín Netanyahu, de negarse a devolver sus cuerpos a Israel. Las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel lo calificaron de “video de propaganda”.
Bibas pasó los primeros días de su cautiverio junto a Ofer Calderón y aprendió árabe. Durante los 484 días que pasó secuestrado, lo trasladaron de un lugar a otro en Khan Younis, entre casas y túneles.
Según el informe, Yarden y Ofer fueron víctimas de abusos físicos y psicológicos. Los terroristas los golpearon y encerraron en jaulas. Sin embargo, contaron que vieron la cobertura de la campaña en Israel por la liberación de los secuestrados y que pudieron sacar fuerzas y esperanza de ello.
Tras la liberación de Bibas, su primo Oriah dijo al Canal 12 que perdió peso y que su familia esperaba algún día verlo sonreír nuevamente.
