Tal Shoham, quien estuvo cautivo de Hamás durante 505 días antes de ser liberado hace dos meses, habló recientemente con la AP sobre la terrible experiencia.

Shoham, de 40 años, quien también posee ciudadanía austriaca, estuvo retenido en varios lugares y soportó períodos de inanición, palizas y amenazas.
Al principio, un militante de Hamás le apuntó con un arma y le ordenó arrodillarse. Él se negó. “No quería que me asesinaran bajo sus condiciones”, dijo.
Inicialmente encadenado en el norte de Gaza, Shoham fue trasladado posteriormente a otro apartamento donde se unió a sus compañeros de cautiverio, Evyatar David y Guy Gilboa-Dalal, reportó Enlace Judío.
Los tres compartieron meses de cautiverio en condiciones extremas, a menudo golpeados y humillados.

Shoham contó que aprendió árabe para mejorar la comunicación con sus captores y reducir el riesgo. A cambio de masajear la espalda de uno de ellos a diario, el grupo recibía ocasionalmente mejor comida, como sardinas, atún y huevos.
Unos 50 días después de su cautiverio, Shoham recibió una carta de su esposa, a través de sus captores, informándole que ella y los niños estaban a salvo y que pronto serían liberados. Ese mensaje, dijo, fue un acto de bondad poco común y le dio la fuerza mental para seguir adelante.
En junio de 2024, Shoham, David y Gilboa–Dalal fueron trasladados a un túnel a unos 30 metros bajo tierra, donde se unieron a Omer Wenkert.
Su reubicación se produjo tras la Operación Arnón, en la que se produjo el dramático rescate de varios rehenes de Nuseirat.
Los hombres se disfrazaron de palestinos y fueron trasladados en ambulancia. En el túnel, durmieron en colchones delgados cerca de un agujero que servía de retrete y se bañaron aproximadamente una vez cada tres semanas.
Al salir de su cautiverio, Shoham les dijo a sus compañeros de cautiverio: “¡Ánimo! No pierdan la esperanza”. Ahora insta al gobierno israelí y a la comunidad internacional a actuar con rapidez para liberar a los rehenes restantes. “Temo que mueran si no los rescatamos pronto”, advirtió.
