El director general de la cancillería israelí, Yuval Rotem, inauguró este lunes la embajada de Israel en Kigali, la capital de Ruanda.
De esta forma, se convierte en la undécima embajada de Israel en el continente africano, como parte de la política israelí de «regreso a África» que anunció el primer ministro Netanyahu hace unos 3 años. El propio mandatario israelí ha viajado ya 4 veces al continente africano desde entonces y ha restablecido relaciones con países africanos como Chad.
En un comunicado, la cancillería israelí afirmó que Ruanda «es un verdadero amigo de Israel y una de las columnas vertebrales de la larga amistad con el continente». Además destacaron que a través de la embajada buscan ampliar la cooperación en áreas como educación, empoderamiento de la mujer, ciencia, tecnología, innovación y agricultura.
El director general de la cancillería israelí, Yuval Rotem, se reunió durante su visita con el presidente de Ruanda, Paul Kagame, e inaugurará un centro de excelencia agrícola en el país que servirá para capacitar a agricultores locales en el uso de tecnologías avanzadas israelíes. El director general expresó que «está seguro que la apertura de la embajada de Israel en Ruanda hará que nuestra relación con Ruanda en específico y con el continente en general, a un lugar elevado».
Además se anunció que la compañía aérea de Ruanda comenzará a operar vuelos directos a Israel, algo que servirá para promocionar el turismo entre los países y reforzar el intercambio comercial.
